Thanks

I always thought it meant that's the net weight of the food - i.e. just the food, not the packaging. Am ready to be corrected though...

whose homework is it we're doing?

I've just noticed it's on toothpaste, shampoo etc as well.
My daughter is only in year 1!! The teacher said she will give a sticker to anyone who finds out. Guess she doesn't know herself!

Found on the Birdseye website, here is your answer:

"Net weight
This is the weight of the food minus all the packaging. The e mark after the weight means that we've packed the food to meet the average weight legislation - a set of rules that ensures that all manufacturers' product weights have a common standard. "
