Thank you letter - to lie or not?

Every birthday and Christmas I get the most odd Christmas presents from my auntie, usually clothes that are just much too old for me and totally awful. I find it quite amusing now but do struggle with the thank you letters. I tend to be polite and say something nice (I lie) but this is probably why I continue to get this type of present. I just can't bring myself to be honest.
I know I'll continue in the polite mode, just wonder whether you lot would too.

Lie, I get hideous things from my SIL - I actually rather look forward to seeing how awful each present can be!

Oh, you have to lie - can't hurt feelings as I'm sure she buys them with the best of intentions.

You don't have to go over the top though - something along the lines of "Just a brief note to thank you for the very kind present..." is polite but non-committal iykwim, and isn't really lying.

Lie-then flog said item on e-bay.

Oh I don't have any intention of hurting her feelings and I know she tries hard. Its quite amusing really. My mum gets a bit upset though (its her sister) and thinks she should have more taste!
No, I just wondered what you do in similar circumstances!

mY GRAN HAS A TENDENCY TO BUY ME HIDEOUSLY (oops sorry bout caps!) embroidered tops that she would wear herself. I always do the thank you phone call but say that when I tried it on it was the wrong size so if she doesn't mind I'm exchanging it. I then swapped it for a plain white t-shirt which was the most un-old-ladylike thing in the shop (think it was Bon Marche)! She has never minded and when she visits I whip the swapped shirt out and show her, to many nods of approval.

I lie. Then I donate the unwanted gift to charity.
