vinyl flooring - mystery marks appearing !

Does anyone know anything about vinyl flooring ? Ours was laid in the kitchen about 17 months ago, onto a concrete floor previously laid with vinyl. It was done by a reputable company and was put down very well, but now we are noticing dark marks (it is quite a light colour) appearing- they're definitely not on the surface as I've scrubbed at them - would it be some kind of reaction with the adhesive ? I'm going to call in and ask at the shop this week, but I wondered whether this has happened to anyone else ? If it looks really awful I might have to have a new floor (we're trying to sell our house!)- can laminate flooring be put on top, or would the vinyl have to be ripped up ? Any ideas/suggestions very gratefully received !

Binker, have you tried using an eraser on them? Just a thought! I think as long as the vinyl's level you can lay laminate on top but I could be wrong- not known for my DIY skills!

no, haven't tried an eraser, the marks seem to come from underneath the surface, which is why I think it might be a reaction to the adhesive, possibly. The floor is nice and level, so that might be ok for laminate flooring.

dark marks can come from shoes on the floor. if that is the case - a bit of eucalyptus oil will get rid of the marks.

Could it be mould from damp?

Sounds to me like the wrong adhesive was used. Go back to the company that laid the floor and ask them to come and inspect. If you get no joy from them, contact the manufacturer of the vinyl flooring. (your insurance company may also cover the cost of replacing the floor).

I hope it isn't mould ! the floor underneath before it was laid looked fine- dry and smooth and no sign of dampness, but I'm no expert. I went to the shop today to ask about it, but it wasn't open-will try again later. Thanks for suggestions.
