ARGHHH one of "those" mums from DS1's party........

HRHQoQ · 14/11/2005 15:36

you remember the ones I said that sat on their backsides and didn't lift a finger while I single handedly ran a party for 10 4/5yr olds AND sat and discussed how much their child's party was going to cost and how wonderful they'd be, and how much better value Barbados is to have a family holiday - as you get more for your £5000 than in Florida.........

Well she's just come up to me after picking the kids up from school and said that her DS keeps asking if my DS1 can come over to play. She's invited him to play after school one day - and she'll feed him dinner and drop him back - of course I've said yes.......but I was really hoping DS1 WOULDN'T become friends with those kids as I can't stand the parents .

Hard lines eh? Still it's very good and socially inclusive of her to lower herself to associate with you....

bosscat · 14/11/2005 15:44

I was at a guest at a party this weekend and the mother did nothing just drank a bottle of wine! we ended up doing it all and she forgot her kids cake. my ds1 kept saying "it isn't a party without cake is it mummy" really loudly till everyone in the entire room had heard him. she still never twigged though and kept going with the wine.

HRHQoQ · 14/11/2005 15:49

LOL HMC - I suppose it is rather........I guess (at some point in the future) I'll have to return the gesture - but she'll have to pick her DS up as I don't drive......just hope he's not as annoying and condescening as she is.....

I'm dying to know what he'll be fed.....I SOOOOO hope it's fish fingers and chips (or something along those lines) then I can feel even smugger that not only did I bake all the biscuits, bread and cakes for DS's party - but I cook proper food

Oh bless! Just remember to send your child with dirty old clothes, unwashed hair and plimsolls with the toes cut out so as not to disappoint her! Tell her you won't be in when she drops DS off as you'll be at the dog racing, but that DS has in own key and can let himself in

HRHQoQ · 14/11/2005 17:35

lol paolo - I musn't forget to tell him to pick his nose and scratch his bum as much as possible too

LOL - and you can swap holiday stories. Barbados/Blackpool - not that different, really! Tell her she could save her money and have just as good a time, and you know a lovely little B and B

HRHQoQ · 14/11/2005 22:27

oh god no! I'm not going - she's going to pick my DS1 up from school when she picks her DS up, take him home, let them play (with all his £1000 toys probably), feed him and bring him back

No problem - just answer the door in your curlers and nylon dressing gown, ciggie hanging out of your mouth, and have a good long chat. She'll love it!

HRHQoQ · 14/11/2005 22:44

might open one of DH's out of date can's of lager to "stagger" to the door with too

I have to say that I always play it safe on first playdates with food - fishfingers is probably my standard fare for first dates at this age. I don't find that it helps the playdate if the visitor ends up starving because they don't eat vegtables etc.

Did feel smug though when ds1 turned down angel delight at a playdate and asked for fruit instead! You'll have to get ds to practice "Did you make these yourself - mummy always does"

HRHQoQ · 14/11/2005 22:54

I can't even remember the last time I even bought fishfingers - probably about 5yrs ago !

Gobbledigook · 14/11/2005 23:31

What the hell is wrong with fishfingers?!?

JoolsToo · 14/11/2005 23:33

fishfinger butties are lush!

HRHQoQ · 14/11/2005 23:34

my DH and DS1 can't stand 'em

Blu · 14/11/2005 23:34

How does lager sit around long enough to go past it's date, that's what I want to know!

HRHQoQ · 14/11/2005 23:35

lol Blu - ask DH -

actually - we bought some for last Christmas when my parents and brother were coming down. My dad then decided he wasn't going to drink ANY lager at all while with us, and DH doesn't drink that much - so it got left

Oh you're jsut being a bit inverted snob you

handlemecarefully · 14/11/2005 23:49

Yeah, fishfingers - 100% cod or haddock with a just a few breadcrumbs coating them. Not really processed food. Probably even Jamie Oliver feeds Poppy and wotsername fishfingers from time to time.

HRHQoQ · 15/11/2005 00:16

oops sorry meant DH and DS2 don't like them - DS1 doesn't mind them........not to mention we'd probably need a whole pack just for one meal to fill us all up. DH likens them to 100% Chicken Breast Chicken nuggets......kids food

OP posts:
Gobbledigook · 15/11/2005 11:11

QOQ - they are not like the '100% chicken nuggets' at all - the chicken ones are always made of mechanically reclaimed chicken, fish fingers are just that - 100% cod. There's no crap in them.

Caligula · 15/11/2005 11:30

They're frightfully expensive though, aren't they?

I never buy fishfingers, but it's only because I can't be arsed to go to the frozen food section - too cold.

oliveoil · 15/11/2005 11:33

I make my own fishfingers .

HRHQoQ · 15/11/2005 16:29

but gobble - regarldess of what they're made from I'd still need to use a whole pack just for one meal (and DH and DS2 still don't like them)

handlemecarefully · 15/11/2005 21:35

lol at oliveoil!
