an afro wig and blacked up face. I was appalled and said so

She told me I was being insufferable and not to be so ridiculous .. some of the boys were dressing up as girls and it was the same thing

I need confirmation that I'm not totally barking to think this is inappropriate

as a slight 'aside' to this thread - there's a group of lads that frequently walk down our street (I'd say they're about 18-20yrs old) mix of all races. All with very short hair....except for one bloke - who has the biggest Afro I've ever seen! I've seen him round town too - and I'm pretty sure it's real!!!!

I hate not having an opinion....but I just don't. Hang on, maybe I do, yes.

I think that as adults, you can do this (blacks dress up as white and vice versa) because we all understand the ridiculousness of it. As kids? I don't think their sense of humour is that honed and maybe the kids may see something else in it (don't know what my kids would make of it tbh)

When I was 14 a friend and I went out for Halloween dressed as Jack the Ripper and a prostitute I was the prostitute with fishnet tights and hot pants...I think I had a whip too

We were still innocent at that age too! I'm sure my mum knew that we were dressed like this. One of the houses we went to they had forgotten it was Halloween and were having a posh dinner party

Much more inappropriate I think!

have to agree with feisty
I know alot of teenagers who love the culture, music etc and maybe she was trying to emulate this

Wallace · 14/11/2005 15:01

Blimey indeed

One of those memories that makes you chuckle whenever it comes to mind

Freckle · 14/11/2005 15:56

Just a thought, but would he need to black up if going as Michael Jackson?

bosscat · 14/11/2005 15:59

Your not barking she is and surely she could have come up with something better anyway?

wallace, tres imaginative!

spidermama · 14/11/2005 16:15

Did he have a spear, a loin cloth and a bone through his nose?

Very crass to go as 'a black'.

A few years ago a carnival club in Somerset did b+W minstrel theme, they were outed by the national press as 'Somerset's Racist Carnival'

It was hugely inappropriate (tho not sure how that made us other 100 clubs racist??)

It's just not the way to go on is it?
