Genetic reasearch I think.

WSM · 03/10/2003 09:58

here is their official line.

M2T · 03/10/2003 09:58

Yeah its something like that.... research into gene therapy I think... anyway, I am Denim clad today and ready to pay my quid.

Finbar · 03/10/2003 09:59

I agree Coddy - we blindly pay our money and never really understand what it's all about!

Rebi · 03/10/2003 10:30

MT2 I am resplendent in my denim attire also! Ds' school hasn't done it this year though. Thank goodness, it feels like they want money everyday at the moment!

Rebi · 03/10/2003 10:31

Sorry, M2T - whoops!

lilibet · 03/10/2003 12:10

I have paid £2 not to wear jeans! Oh the humiliation of being overweight!!

we paid 50p, and I got stick at work for opting out by wearing a denim skirt (well my jeans have paint all over them!)

sugarplumfairy · 04/10/2003 12:51

We all wore jeans and I sent extra money in with DD and DS because i know someone whose 2 year old has had a bone marrow transplant so it is an issue that has touched a nerve with us but then the headmaster in all his wisdom sent out a letter after school saying that they were going to donate the money to another charidee because a friend of his had asked him to! I haven't got anything against other charities but this was a national event and I sent in extra money because it was a charity that I wanted to support . Do you think that it was reasonable of the head to do this?

Lara2 · 04/10/2003 13:03

Miserable git!! It was supposed to be for genetic research - no, it wasn't OK for him to do this. It's like doing Red Nose Day and sending the money to Oxfam. Nothing against Oxfam, but it was a national event for a designated charity.

rainbow · 04/10/2003 15:37

If I were you sugarplum fairy I would write a stiff letter to the head master(on cardboard). Explian that you feel conned by his actions and that it is deceitful to use Jeans for Genes day to collect money for another charity.

sugarplumfairy · 04/10/2003 15:48

Thanks for the advice, there were a few of us that were a bit miffed, maybe we should get together and hit him over the head with the stiff letter and then give him detention!

sis · 04/10/2003 20:56

Eh/ since when has anyone been able to collect for one charity and then been able to decide that the money will go to another charity?!! Definately not acceptable!

If he wishes to raise money for anotheer charity then he should organise another fund-raising event - not cash in on another charity's event!

The head is a bit of a prima donna and likes to have his own way and he always decides where PTA money goes eg instead of on books for the children, the money raised by fairs etc is being used to enlarge the staff carpark at the moment so obviously he decided that he could do what he pleased with the charity money.
