My mum is getting married

My mum is marrying my wonderful step-father next Friday - very, very happy about this. (Already refer to him as step-dad - they have been together 15 years.)

They are referring to it as a technical adjustment - so it's not all romantic or anything! It's just going to be the 2 of them, me, DP, DD, my sister, step-brother and step-sister and my mums youngest, closest brother and his lovely wife.

We're doing the registry thing and then going to F&M for tea. Would be home by 7pm.

I asked my mum what her plans where that night and she said that my DD would be ready for bed so we'll just all go home and have a cup of tea.

I thought I'd treat them to a night in a hotel in London. I thought the Charlotte Street Hotel of Blakes?

I'm also going to do it as a surprise. Nick a pair of her knickers & his pants (!), and get them a toothbrush and a few of the overnight essentials and then just hand them over at the end and say right, here's the address of where you're staying tonight.

So a) what do you think and b) any other suggestions on where I should book them into?

I can't stretch to more than £250 for the room for a night.
Step-father likes v modern, Mum likes places like the Lanesborough and the Bath Spa Hotel etc etc
It's for next Friday and want it to be London as that's where we'll be already.

I think she means we can share the excitement, TC!

(You will be telling us all about it later, won't you?)

sykes · 07/10/2003 16:53

I'm sure she's pleased for you and excited re the story - it's a lovely idea and previous postings do have that sentiment. Hope it goes really well and everyone has a great day.

ThomCat · 07/10/2003 17:04

Yeah I'm sure it's meant that way too. I just don't really 'know' you MotherInferior and I just read it as sarcastic at first - but I was wrong to take it that way I'm sure and it was also very silly of me as well - sorry - sorry everyone!

Of course I'll tell you all about it. I won't be able to stop myself! I'm giddy excited about it and get butterflies when I think about it.

The Savoy are so lovely and emailed to confirm that they will do everything they can to make it memorable for them and have made a note everywhere poss. to give them a upgrade if they can. She even added a personal note about my perhaps trying to sneakily packing an overnight bag for them!! Bless!

I also rang F&M and said if there was anything they could do and they said they would get the pianist to play them something special and make sure there were special flowers and a card at the table!

My b/f has ordered a corsage for my mum and a matching button hole for step-father!

OMG - hurry UP Friday!!!

Just to say I hope it all goes well TC - I bet you'll all have a lovely day.

sykes · 07/10/2003 17:12

It sounds as if it's going to be an amazing day. And hope you don't take offence at this but I just loved your pardon? It just appeals to my sense of humour and it reminded me that it's so easy to misinterpret the printed word. Something I'm v good at. Please don't be offended, but I could just imagine me saying pardon, being a bit of a cynic sometimes myself. Have a great day.

ThomCat · 07/10/2003 17:18

Sykes - glad you understood and could laugh at where I was coming from! In hindsight it was silly to take it that way and if MotherInferior comes back here and sees I took it as a sarcastic comment I shall throw myself at her feet and eat humble pie there - but I have to admit that when I first read it my head did move back an inch or so whilst my shoulders remained still and my eyebrows did raise themselves!!! Do you get me!!

I absolutely do get you. I think I might have replied something along the lines of: I beg your bleeding pardon? Motherinferior, if you're reading this at some point, hope you're laughing too. Absolutely no offence intended.

sis · 09/10/2003 11:05

ThomCat, it all sounds really lovely and I am excited for you too! Hope everything goes really well tomorrow - don't forget to tell us about it afterwards.

I'm excited for you - I love weddings, have a fantasic day, tell us all about it and if you could get some photos on, it would be wonderful!

CountessDracula · 09/10/2003 13:04

Thomcat you must be fit to burst by now! Have you ransacked their undies drawer yet?

ThomCat · 09/10/2003 13:42

Ransacking occurred last night - not helped by the fact they just had their wardrobes ripped out so had to search all the spare rooms - 3 in total, so it wasn't easy. I pretended to be looking for something of Lottie?s. I took a pair of pants each! A clean top each and raided a drawer full of strips of tablets, and took one of each! Bought toothbrushes and have made up a huge toiletry bag and makeup bag! Will report back on Tuesday when I'm next in - TC xx

Ghosty · 12/10/2003 11:14

Oh TC ... have only just read this thread ... what a lovely daughter you are ... so romantic! I wish someone could do something like that for me one day (not that I am planning on getting remarried ever but maybe for an anniversary) ... am off to tell DH all about it so as to sow the seed
Do let us know how it went ...

ThomCat · 14/10/2003 11:22

Hi girls - going to try and be quick here - but they LOVED it, it was a fabulous day and the surprise was perfect!
We were all in F&M having tea and we were having a toast amd I sprung the surprise on them. i gave them a wedding card that just said that although they didn't want a fuss made that there was no better time to spoil 2 such wonderful and much loved people and that they wouldn't be coming home with us but staying at the savoy. there was a bit of welling up and hugs etc when my Mum said 'Oh no I haven't got my HRT' to which I answered oh yes you have and gave her the overnight bag - they were bowled over and yes they had the most wonderful time. Th bathroom was the biggest and most wonderful they had ever seen and the room was huge and the bed amazing etc etc etc. It was all wonderful and I wish we could do it all over again.
