Is your daughter's ballet school like this?

I've been thinking of sending dd1 to a new ballet school (because the current one is quite a long drive away), but I'm put off by their obsession with the "correct" outfit. Every child has to wear the school's leotard which costs £22 - and that's just the leotard, then you need a cardigan as well which costs another £12 or so - and during every lesson the hair has to be tied back - dd1 has just had her hair cut in a short bob, why should she tie it back????
The lessons take place in a manky church hall, and the children are four or five... I think this is really extreme!

I have never bothered with the cardi as they take it off to dance anyway. I am glad we don't have to buy the outfits for the shows. We paid £4 per outfit to "hire" it. Seemed reasonable enough as they all had brand new wigs for one dance (they looked amazing) and some outfits were old ones but all altered to suit. One of the older classes were wereing leather jackets for one dance and they asked around the parents to see who had one.

One question to MotherI do you just look around all the threads to see what your kids don't do and try your put yourself down, you really don't have to. All children and families are different. There are plenty things I don't do but I am not going to stress about it, if we all did everything we would never cope.
