All I've heard all morning on the news is how horrendous this afternoon and evening is going to be!

Storm force winds, stronger than Scotland have had for 5 years (and I remember that storm!). Its going to batter the Central Belt for a few hours.

I'm worried about getting home from work (I'm in Glasgow City Centre).... I'm even MORE worried about DH driving the babies home in that weather! The recommendation is do NOT drive in it!

I'm actually really scared about it. Anyone else or am I a fruit cake?

Heard this was supposed to be here this morning. Well, maybe it's stalled over the water or something. Is it expected later now?

JonesTheSteam · 11/11/2005 09:38

I'd be worried as well - but then I am a complete wimp!!!!

During the big storm (you know the one Michael Fish said wasn't happening!!!) I was being driven back from Canterbury after an interview at the college there. It was one of the scariest nights of my life. The Severn Bridge was closed to high-sided vehicles and a 10mph speedlimit was in place. I was terrified.

The WORST is a really, really bad hail storm. Worse than snow - like driving on a sea of marbles and then the hail cracks your windscreen and you can see sweet FA. Got caught in one in Denver - and not even the worst of it - and never been more scared in my life.

God I hope not, am actually supposed to be leaving the house to meet a friend this afternoon...

Skribble · 11/11/2005 21:01

DH is driving home just now in a transit van, its really bad. Our back garden gets the wind really bad at the best of times, so tonight its even worse.

Not as bad as earlier on in the year when I actually thought the roof was going to blow off, I even got my DS out of his bed at the back of the house and put him through the back.

It sounds really wild outside. We have a tarpaulin over a leak in the bathroom roof. It is weighed down with tiles and some big stones. It sounds like a rugby squad is practising as the wind lifts it and bangs it down. Both dd and ds have been frightened by the noises it's been making and we've all been sleeping together the last couple of nights. Roofer coming on Monday, cos, of course, he's overloaded with work.

Was supposed to be going out but decided to stay in( big wimp me) and stay warm and cosy.

tamum · 11/11/2005 21:06

We've got one of those lights in the graden that's activated by movement and it's going mad, presumably because of all the stuff hurtling round the garden. Eeeek.

Skribble · 11/11/2005 21:25

I am not scared easily but last time i was in tears, probably because DH wasn't bother and I was trying to drag a sleeping 8yr old from his high bunk (to exposed) and carry him through to his sisters. Our house is basicly a wooeden clad wooden frame and although it is cosy the walls are very thin. The walls were shaking so much and the windows were vibrating. I made sure the kids were safe and then went to sleep downstairs> Not that I slept the noise of the wind howling down the flue was shocking.

Not to bad this time we are a bit down from the central belt.

Janh · 11/11/2005 21:30

Good grief, it's amazing to think all that's going on up there and it's quiet here, hope you are all OK?

Skribble · 11/11/2005 21:39

Well thats DH in now, looks a bit shell shocked but didn't get totally blown off the road just weaving about a bit.

I'm getting annouted as the neighbours overflow has been dripping for months and now it is blowing accross the back of the house all day and keeping it all soaking.

tamum · 11/11/2005 21:48

We're away from the worst of it, I think Janh, but it is weird that there is such a difference across the country- the forecast was about 16 degrees for London today. Hope you are all well

paolosgirl · 11/11/2005 21:58

No - pretty worried here too. Must go and make sure the rabbit is back in her hutch.

Janh · 11/11/2005 22:02

Fine, thank you, tamum - hope all of you are too

Today was a bit damp and blowy here but nothing serious - quite mild too - not that I saw any of it having been slaving over a hot keyboard all day!
