Some nutter this morning went mad at me because I let 2 cars into a side road.
There was a still queue of cars ahead btw. He started beeping me so I put my hands up in a 'what's the matter' gesture and then went to drive on. At the same time he suddenly appeared next to me in his car and was shouting something. It was so ridiculous I just laughed. I drove on a bit more in the queue of traffic and he then roared alongside me and pulled the car in so I had to stop or crash. He then got out of his car, cam e up to mine screaming 'bloody woman, I should punch you'! My window was slightly open but I had quickly locked door as he got out. I said 'ohhh lovely, yes fine, punching a pregnant woman, for no reason, would make your day better would it' and he went off back to his car, mumbling insults.

All most unnecessary.
Anyway he was so nasty and angry that I wrote down his number plate and I wondered if I wanted to, which I don?t think I do really, but if he had punched or kicked the car or been any more angry, could I somehow report him using his number plate?

I would call the police definitely - he threatened you. They might at least go and have a word with him about his behaviour.

Tinker · 09/11/2005 11:49

I would. Have done in the past. Will make you feel better, if nothing else.

Zephyrcat · 09/11/2005 11:51

Definately report him.

ThomCat · 09/11/2005 11:53

So who should I call, the local police?

Yes, just ring the number for your local station (there will prob be one number for a few stations) They will log it as an incident at least....

NotActuallyAMum · 09/11/2005 11:56

I'd certainly report him. He may not have physically insulted you but, as Kbear said, he threatened you - and the next poor woman may not be so lucky

If the police choose to do nothing, at least you tried

handlemecarefully · 09/11/2005 11:58

Of course you could - do it!

My dh has done this twice before (and police dealt with it on both occasions)

handlemecarefully · 09/11/2005 11:58

I should clarify that by 'done it' I mean reported a similar incident to the police, I don't mean that he had road raged!

handlemecarefully · 09/11/2005 11:59

Actually we even once reported a police car for bad driving. The Inspector rang us back to talk it over with us!

oliveoil · 09/11/2005 12:00

Report the cretin, if he was in that much of a mood, he may have done it again further up the road.

ThomCat · 09/11/2005 12:02

That's my main reason for wanting to do something, not so much for me, but more becasue he's obviously a mad-man who could end up hurting someone.

Blimey! how horrible for you. I hope you are okay now and yes, please do report it - a call from the police might make him think about his reaction.

SoupDragon · 09/11/2005 12:06

Definitely report it. They may not e able to do anything (being a his word against yours type thing) but it will make you feel like you've done something and they may well at least talk/write to him about the incident and make him think twice about behaving like that in future.

popsycal · 09/11/2005 12:08

do it

ThomCat · 09/11/2005 12:17

Done it. She wanted to send officers round to me as I had been threatened but I said I didn't want that, I just wanted to make them aware in case he did it again or anything, So she took details of the incident, a description of him, the car reg etc.

Zephyrcat · 09/11/2005 12:17

Well done you

SoupDragon · 09/11/2005 12:18

Well done

KBear · 09/11/2005 12:19

The thing is, if they have his details and later on something else happens (more road rage or god forbid, an accident) there will be a record of it.

Hope your day gets better TC!

jolou1 · 09/11/2005 12:19

Do it. I once phoned a window company after I saw one of their vans being driven by an absolute maniac. He nearly caused me and several others to crash. The woman I spoke to was furious and thanked me for phoning. Made me feel a lot better knowing he was going to get a dressing down. With any luck he thinks twice now before driving dangerously. You've nothing to lose and you'll be doing fellow road-users a real favour.

LadySherlockofLGJ · 09/11/2005 12:19

Well done, what an asshole.

suedonim · 09/11/2005 13:20

Well done, TC, good for you! I've recently been to the police about people speeding through our vilage, which has a 20mph limit at school times. If we don't act, nothing gets done.

tallulah · 09/11/2005 17:57

I rang the police recently about a van driver who tried twice to push me off the road. They asked if there were witnesses- a whole lane worth actually but I could hardly get anyone's details- so just weren't interested.

sickandtired · 09/11/2005 18:53

I had a similar thing earlier this year, I was feeding in from a filter lane and this chap just didn't want to let me in, eventually he had to, then he started flashing his lights and gesturing. It was dark and I had ds1 & 2 in the car (they were babies). He then followed me home, blocked me on my drive way, threatened me, swore at me In the end I got out of the car, told his to F off or I would my nighbour out (no one was at home) to get him off of my property. I was terrified, ds 1 and 2 were crying. I took him number, contacted the police, and they did................. Nothing. Jack shit - I couldn't believe it!

handlemecarefully · 09/11/2005 23:41

I'm really surprised that the police did nothing on either of those occasions.

Dh flashed a car for cutting in front of him rather dangerously to take a motorway exit at the last possible second. Car driver took umbrage at being mildly rebuked, and at the exit roundabout (where there was a queue of traffic waiting) hopped out of his car and approached dh. Dh being a dim wit opened his window to talk to man, and the man reached in and grabbed dh's ignition key and hurled them into some bushes (it was pitch dark).

Dh called police who tracked down the man and offered to press charges. Dh said not to bother as apparently the man was contrite....
