PE

and

PE

Being good at PE was seen as being 'cool' and I was such a lardy arsed, wobble bottom I was anything but cool.

No, i couldn't have given a toss about P.E.

Erm i wish i could have been better at Maths I think, because it always has the knack of making me feel really really thick.

flamesparrow · 08/11/2005 16:33

PE... I was you MB, not so much lardy arsed, but no co-ordination whatsoever. The one time I was meant to be in the gym competition (gym was soemthing I could do reasonably well), I hurt my back, got taken off in an ambulance, and not allowed to do it

northerner · 08/11/2005 16:34

Would have liked to ahve been good at Art and Maths.

I always wanted to be in the Drama clique at school but never was. John Godber was the drama teacher and there was a gang of students who were his groupies and very cool.

Blandmum · 08/11/2005 16:38

wow, i can see why you wanted to be 'in' with that crowd....impresive

Russian, wish I was better at it!

expatinscotland · 08/11/2005 16:42

Maths. And Sciences.

Girls weren't encouraged in my school.

Finally, at 26, I decided to take some night courses at the local uni in maths. I started w/'pre-Algebra' and went up to Differential Equations ('Diffy-Q')Calculus. Just to see what it was like. I LOVED it! I also went from 'pre-Chemistry' to organic chemistry 'for science majors'. What a blast! Took biology and physiology for sci. majors as well.

flamesparrow · 08/11/2005 16:42

pmsl - I can laugh at it now!! I didn't even get any status for the amulance getting - more like looks of how useless I must have been to manage to injure myself!!!

Never did hurdles myself - too scared of running into them!!!

High jump I liked (long legs), but we rarely did it.

JonesTheSteam · 08/11/2005 16:43

Would have liked to be really good at Art.

I wasn't really bad at it, just average and had no imagination!!

crazydazy · 08/11/2005 16:43

Loved - English and Games!!!
Hated - Maths, science and history!!!!

flamesparrow · 08/11/2005 16:43

Expat - I'm always fascinated by all the maths names you have!!! What exactly is calculus??? Algebra I know...

Blandmum · 08/11/2005 16:45

Flamesparrow, being a klutz runs in my family. My cousin was in a gym display (in the 50s). The girls had to run up to a little tramploline, jump on it and 'bounce' over a vaulting horse, tapping it ligtly with their hands as they went 'over the top'.

My counsin ran up, jumped, missed the fabric of the tranpoline and got one leg trapped between the springs on the side. She didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Hated woodwork - teacher was on old guy from the army. Wanted to be good at chemistry and physics, and later on Economics - just couldn't seem to grasp these subjects no matter how much I studied.

expatinscotland · 08/11/2005 16:54

Calculus is MANY things, flame! It's the quantitive language of science and nature. It's a build up of other maths forms and an integration of still others. That's why you have the study of things like algebra, geometry and trigonometry to build a platform on concepts in the mind before being able to learn calculus. And why calculus is sometimes necessary to undertake the study of some forms of science.

As my wise father once said, 'There's no place you can't go w/maths by your side.'

To me it was always like a secret room where I wasn't allowed to go. Until I decided to try the door!

To anyone thinking of just giving it a try, do it! Even if you start w/the most basic arithmetic, it's all just stepping stones and loads of fun on the way.

ThomCat · 08/11/2005 16:57

Maths. I was useless and threfore in a low maths class and therefore majority of pupils were disruptive. Always, always had teachers who couldn't control the class and never really learnt anything. I can't do maths at all and hate that.

Blu · 08/11/2005 16:58

Maths / Art.
