Washing machine's dial has gone weird - is it likely to be termimal?

Anyone know anything about washing machines before I try and find a washing machine repairer?

The dial we use to select the program normally needs to be pushed in and "clicks" as you turn it round (and only goes round clockwise). It is now not clicking and will go either way and isn't selecting a program.

Suppose I do need to get a washing machine repairer person. It is 6 and a bit years old though - has it died?

sounds as though the clip inside the dial has snapped and thats why it isnt "catching" i had the same prob with my thermostat dial and went on there website and found a replacememt part for it. HTH

Thanks - that sounds a bit more hopeful.

Six years is very young - don't give up on it yet. Ours is 15 years old! Is there anyone "handy" in you house? Dh always posts our dilapidated appliances' problems on various message boards and someone always suggests a remedy. But then dh is pretty handy with a screwdriver.

I have consulted with dh (who has popped in for lunch), and he says the dial may have come disconnected from the metal but inside. Can you pull it off and try turning the metal bit by itself? Then you'll know if it's the dial or something inside...

There is a brilliant spare parts shop in Slough where they will give you advice if you describe the problem. I replaced a washing machine door myself after ds swung on the hinges, and saved myself a fortune.
