It's DDs 2nd birthday today, and tomorrow we're having a family lunch/party at MILs house. MIL is going to do all the food, so I said I'd provide dessert. I've spent most of today at the shops and in the kitchen sorting all this out, but most importantly baking DD's birthday cake.

I've just gone to ice and decorate it (it's been cooling on a rack) only to find DS1 and 2 have eaten big chunks from around the edge. They're not babies (5 and 7), they knew what it was so why do it? I'm so angry with them I've banished them to their room, I'm crying I'm so stressed and cross. I haven't got any eggs left to redo it, plus I've got to go to work soon _ i've got no time. I'm going to have to bodge it somehow.

I can hear them laughing and playing in their room, they just don't get it

Back to the kitchen.......

sorry, just needed to rant here so I don't go and yell at them again

My kids aren't old enough, but I would have more punishment for them, as clearly they haven't learned it was wrong.

You have my sympathies, anyway.

what sort of cake is it? any way you could use jam or make a butter icing filling?

serenity · 04/11/2005 16:58

Thanks. Their room is opposite the kitchen so they're now doing silent homework in the front room, so I can calm down.

Go to the shops when you have 5 mins and buy one. Get the kids to sit on stool in silence for a good 10-15 mins. And dont let them eat any of the next cake...little buggers
Not funny though, really.

laligo · 04/11/2005 16:58

yes, do a thick frosting all over it and fill in the gaps.

Have you got time to make a chocolate buttercream topping or choc fudge topping and just splodge it all over?

Sometimes, they do things that you can't believe but just remember that when DD is eating it tomororw, she's not going to care what it looks like

It's just a sponge. I've made some buttercream for the middle and top. It's going to have loads of pink sprinkles and marshmallows on the top too (DSs 'designed' it). I think I'll just have to have the eaten edge on the bottom, and leave that side until last.

Cover it with butter icing and then put chocolate buttons or other preferred sweets on top - and, most importantly, don't let the DSs have any. Litte sods.

Bugger. I'm going to have to lick the icing bowl out myself.

It leans over a bit but it looks OK (from the top!) No, I don't think they will be getting any of this, although I'm sure MIL twist my ear about it
