Twinkie, it doesn't sound that excessive to me. I was charged £120/hr by a Manchester based (so cheaper than London) employment law solicitor 6 years ago (so ages ago, would have gone up by now etc). So in that context and my experience it doesn't seem much more.

Re you in London? My dh works in tax and trusts way out in the sticks (devon) and charges 155 quid an hour. The partners in his firm are over 200 quid and hour. When dh was in the city (and pretty junior) his charge out rate was over 200 quid.

If your solicitor has a number of years experience I would say it was the going rate.

Always try and get a fixed rate if possible. Or, agree that when the bill gets to an agreed plateau say £1000 they let you know.

Sounds about right to be me if you are in a big city; even reasonable (?!?) if in London. DH charges about £130 an hour I think; we are in Sheffield.

Makes my £120 per hour seem positively cheap! Ask can you set up a standing order and pay something every month, which is what I do, will still have a hube bill at the end but at least I will have got rid of some of it. I'ts my first hearing a week on Tuesday, may all be over thn but I doubt it.
