Removal company question

Will be moving in a little while from one town to another about 200 hundred miles away.

What happens when you are driving to the new place and the company are loading up the stuff, keys hand over making sure the place is locked up etc.

Who normally leaves first?, what happens to the keys?

You usually wait for the van to leave and drop the keys to the agents to be collected by the purchaser on completion. Perhaps the removal firm would do that on your behalf but you need to be very secure about it.

the removal company leave first, then you take the keys to the solicitor/estate agent/ letting agent or the landlord collects the keys form you.

if it is rented then they normally come to inspect the property make sure that everything is ok.

and even using a removal company they don't do any of the cleaning, usually stay behind to give a quick last hoover and make sure everything is as i would like to find it.

They wait ? Don't forget they'll probably take a break en route too and would have mobiles.

You leave last

If it's that far then you won't have your stuff moved in until the following day

mrsflowerpot · 03/11/2005 18:26

we've just moved that sort of distance and we had to do it over 2 days.

jellyjelly · 03/11/2005 19:06

can you tell me how you done it, i dont know why but this keeps popping into my head.

If the new house is about 200 miles away, what will probably happen will be this:

Day One: removal men turn up at old house and empty it. Usually finish around 12 as usually keys have to transfer about that time. They then leave and drive towards new location and you drop off keps with agent/whatever (also clean house!)

Day Two: rmoval men turn up at new location either early morning if they drove up the previous day, or about midday if they didn't.

What will almost certainly NOT happen is that they will empty one house, drive up and fill new house in one day. They can't. They have to have breaks and can only work so many hours a day.

Any removal firm you ring up for quotes will discuss these details with you though anyway.

HTH (I have moved many many times!)

thankyou lonely mum that has cleared alot up now. I assume that they normally have insurance for any goods in case they get damaged in their care as they would have it overnight.
