How can you clean a mattress after wet-bed?

I am a regular mnetter but have changed my name for this because people know me and dd in RL.
She wet the bed last night, totally because she scared herself to death with a haunted house trip last night, and was mortified that she had been to scared to get out of bed to wee.
I have washed the sheets obviously but can I wash the duvet in a normal machine. And what can I do with the mattress?

Leave it in the sun to dry. This iswhat my mother did as i wet the bed for years.

Poor baby.

Ah there is no need to be ashamed. My ds1 wet the bed the other week and he is 9. It is not a regular thing with him, but it is not unheard of. At least your dd had an excuse.

Anyway, I suppose it is too late to say it nowe, but I have waterproof mattress covers on all the children's beds - from John Lewis. Not only do they save the mattress but they are also towelling on the top side so they make a nice soft base for the bed.

Worth a thought?

I think the mattress covers are about £10 - 12, no more than £15 I would guess.

Not sure what mess would be made by a cat having kittens on a bed as a cat had kittens in our back garden this summer and there was no mess at all. I think the mother must have eaten the afterbirth as she, the kittens and the nest where she had them were completely clean and dry.

I spotted this thread the other week about cleaning a mattress with white vinegar to get rid of the smell of urine, and it seems to work. I should think if you do that, then leave the mattress out in the sun to dry, you'd be OK.

I put cat litter on the wee stain - it draws out the moisture and the odour.

We have a Bosch max washing machine that takes a 7kg load.

i always wash single (synthetic, not feather) duvets in it no problem at all! normally on summer days and often on ahot summer day they line dry in 4 or 5 hours...

even inside i drape them over the bannester and they seem dry by the evening if washed early in the day.

My son has started wetting his pants and bed again, he's 4 ... been dry for 18 mths and I haven't covered the bed with the wee-protector sheet completely. I clean mattress with baby shampoo and warm water lightly, blot dry with kitchen roll and shake bicarb of soda to rid the smell .... works for me. Does anyone have any other suggestions ... boys' wee seems to be more powerful smelling!?
