They need a permit I think to put it on the road or pavement

hunkermunker · 31/10/2005 20:52

Not sure re placement, but are there lights on it? One of DH's friends nearly killed by crashing into a skip - is one of my big hates, skips without lights on.

foxinsocks · 31/10/2005 20:53

I don't think it should be on the pavement - there have been several on our little street and none have been on the pavement (don't think you're allowed to obstruct it).

If you don't get on with them, I would give your local council a call - they are normally very hot on builders flaunting rules (I think the skip should have a light on it as well) - there are all sorts of fines they have to pay if they do it wrong.

YG,how unspeakably petty can you get??
I always assumed that skip etiquette meant it was fair game for everyone. All our neighbours hurled stuff into ours when we were renovating.

What did you do with the box??

WitchyWhizzz · 31/10/2005 20:55

heres a link to one council - assume others should be similar

Twiglett · 31/10/2005 20:55

they must have lights on it if its on the public highway and I don't think they're allowed to put it on the pavement .. call the council and complain but tell them you want to stay anonymous

WitchyWhizzz · 31/10/2005 20:56

this may be of more use

fairydust · 31/10/2005 20:56

your not allowed to put them on pavements as pavements are classed at public right of ways. However they should have a permit and have appropiate lighting to warn others of the skip at night. The skip also shouldn't block any drive ways.

fairydust · 31/10/2005 20:57

if there are no lights on it you can phone the polica anom as it's a danger

hunkermunker · 31/10/2005 20:57

You can report them to the police if there are no lights on it. I have done just that in the past.

Even an unfilled skip is heavy as all feck if it's crashed into. Really dangerous not to have lights on them.

Frayedknot · 31/10/2005 20:59

I assume all councils will issue something similar

to this

Some of the things you mention are listed in it.

we are a dead end and the skips still had lights on (but don't know if they had to)

I imagine they would still have to have them on as it's still a public road that anyone can drive on.
