Got 2nd hand pushchair from NCT and the wheel came off - can I do anything?

I was at a NCT Nearly New Sale on Saturday and bought a new pushchair. I have to say it was a rush decision as you have to grab things at these sales. Anyway I put it in the car and put it straight in the shed at home. Took it out today and wheeled it out and one of the wheels came off!

Not pleased about this but feel it is my fault as I didn't check it properly but it is so cramped in the sale it is unrealistic to wheel a pushchair around. Also the ticket on entrance says that "NCT is an agent and that it is up to the buyer to check goods" so feel I probably can't complain. It was only £25 so not the end of the world but am annoyed all the same. Have tried phoning someone at NCT but in the meantime wondered if anyone else had a similar experience with an NCT sale, thanks.

I would say that all the signs point to you not being able to get any financial compensation for the damaged buggy. Sorry.

Hmm, didn't think so. Maybe dh can fix it but feel I don't want it now in case it falls off again. Rest of it seems in good condition though. May just cut my losses and donate it to the charity shop and look out for another.

I disagree (as a helper at NCT sales). The goods sold should be of 'Nearly New' quality which this isn't. I would contact the organiser of the sale (there should be a named contact on the original flyer that you saw advertising the sale).....they have the details of all the sellers and may be prepared to liaise with the seller on your behalf.

Update - organiser phoned back. She said it depends mainly on the seller. This seller is a new person so she can't promise anything. However she is going to get back to me. Thanks.

I'd say if the sale only happened on Saturday the seller probably won't have her money yet. I'd have thought there could be some negotiation done on your behalf.

Keep us posted.

Good news! NCT phoned back and I am entitled to my money back. They feel that the goods weren't of a saleable standard. I've to phone someone else to organise dropping the pushchair off and I will get a cheque to reimburse me in due course. I think they return the pushchair to the seller and they don't get their money. But obviously they've got their goods back and can sort out the problem themselves so no-one has really lost out.

Hooray for the NCT!
