Would you find it odd if, when dropping your child off for a sleepover, the mum said as you were walking out the door....

...'so you trust us to take care of your child?'

I am the single parent of an only child so all stereotypes probably apply (Wink), but I thought it was an odd thing to say - especially as dd has played there many times and slept over also. And, let me hasten to add, I don't think i could be classified as over-protective.

was it said seriously?

meant seriously, said in a serious tone, I mean

No - she smiled when she said it. But upon reflection, it seems a bit of a random and strange comment.

The mutual friend who introduced us 18 months ago has often joked with me about how this family's story (before they moved here) doesn't quite add up. But, we have stopped trying to make sense of it, as the family seem very nice.

What happened when you went to collect you child? Any further weirdness or was everything as normal?

No it's the kind of thing I might say out of nervousness. Perhaps someone had made her feel bad about her mothering abilities earlier that day, or maybe she'd just spotted the kids doing something she thought was something you might have disapproved of (but it passed you by because she was being oversensitive).

My good friend who has an incredibly responsible job, two children, I've known her for ever and she's an impeccably upstanding member of the community said to me "I can't believe you'd have me as a godmother to your child I'm just so crap."

Wouldn't think anything of it personally
