GRUMPY OLD WOMAN ALERT

Why - at nearly 11pm at night - are some feckin' idiots setting off really noisy fireworks, disturbing my kids sleep, scaring the buggary out of my cat, and severely p*ing me off, when it isn't even Halloween yet, let alone Bonfire Night?!!!!!!

Agree. Should be banned unless it's bonfire night!

Nbg · 29/10/2005 22:59

I don't think anyone likes them.

This must be the fourth fireworks thread tonight!

Luckily they've stopped here, although now I've typed this, they'll probably start again.

Bomper · 29/10/2005 23:02

Blimey - really? Well at least I am not alone!!

Oh dear, this is my latest gripe. My dog, poor soul that he is, is terrified of fireworks and seems to be in a constant state of wobblyness at the moment. Apart from the w*nkers who seem to be setting off fireworks from about 6pm onwards, we even had idiots letting them off at 1.30am this morning, which not only had the dog rushing around in terror, but woke me up well and truly to the extent that I couldn't get back to sleep until about 5.30am.

If any politician proposes a bill which only allows fireworks to be sold to organised displays which are licensed, they'll have my vote.

spooklymieow · 30/10/2005 00:01

You know its illegal after 11pm on a normal day, and midnight on bonfire night. You could phone the police if you have an idea where they are coming from.

ediemaybeabat · 30/10/2005 00:03

hi freckle, we used to get sedatives for our dog from the vet, might this help? It's awful for them and you never know when it's going to end

triceratops · 30/10/2005 03:13

A display started a few gardens down just as I was putting ds to bed. It was really noisy and poor ds thought it was bonfire night and he was going to miss it which ended in tears.

DaddyGhoul · 30/10/2005 06:10

hate them hate them hate them. ban them all and shoot people who let them off outside Nov 5th. fireworks... bloody pointless.

ds has been shaking in his boots the last few nights whilst I've attempted to put him to bed.

fireworks... pah!

think it was Diwali last night so lots of fireworks for that. BUT I feckin hate them too, especially crappy ones in people's back gardens and kids letting them off at random. And sometimes in the daylight too - what's that all about?

edgetop · 30/10/2005 09:02

triceratops, same thing happened to us last night,so ds & i ended up looking out of his bedroom window for 20 minutes watching them. he didnt get to sleep until about 9.45 pm.
i agree with other about only having displays & on bonfire night only.
each year we see on the news the next day the damage they do. another thing they seem to be getting biger & louder each year.

melsy · 30/10/2005 09:12

Bomper , do we live in same street , family next door were shouting and letting firworks off waaaaay past 11pm. I was In my conservatory and I got the fright of my life. I coudnt believe them all.

Love them at Disney (organised with music , FAR AWAY !!

Hate them when about 3ft from my ear !!

TinyGang · 30/10/2005 09:45

They're going off here too and our children have been woken and even upset. In grumpy mode I do agree and they go on for too many weeks etc, but in my heart of hearts.....

I'm with Soupy - I can't help it!!!

zippitippitoes · 30/10/2005 09:50

We don't do fireworks much here compared with a lot of other countries where they are used all the time for any kind of event eg football, politics etc and definitely not confined to organised displays

last night's were mostly for Diwali I should think (and because they are in the supermarkets at the moment)

Bomper · 30/10/2005 09:53

Oh, don't get me wrong, I do enjoy fireworks. Just at the right time and in the right place. If it was Diwali last night, then fair enough, of course, but do they have to go on so late?

zippitippitoes · 30/10/2005 10:11

I think Diwali is actually on 1 Novemeber this year but presumably the fireworks aren't confined to the day for everyone like nov 5
