Anyone drive a Xsara Picasso?

Yes, I know I am always asking for all you lovely ladies advice, but we have just killed our current car, and are having to get a new one pretty sharpish. I really fancy a Picasso, as we have 3 children, and it would be nice for them all to have a 'proper' seat, instead of ds getting squashed between his younger sisters. Before we splash out large quantities of cash, I was wondering, if you've got one - would you recommend them. And if not, why?

We have the 2l HDI and when I drive it sedately to and from work, it's very economic. When DH drives it (kicks the nuts out of it, tows boats, humps all kinds of heavy diving gear around) it's more economical than a petrol but not by much.

I like ours because ot has an extra power socket in the back. Handy for electric cool box, portable DVD player and all sorts of other long journey items.
I thought the dashboard took a bit of getting used to because it doesn't have dials, it just tells you how fast you're going andhow much fuel you have.

WigWamBam · 28/10/2005 18:25

Voice of dissent here ... as a passenger, I don't like the Picasso very much at all. We have the 2l HDi and it's a really wallowy ride, the suspension is very soft and you feel every single lump and bump in the road. It's even worse in the back, I get thrown all over the place on twisty or bumpy roads. It's useful as far as storage and space is concerned, and it's quite economical, but if dh insists on another one I shall be very unhappy!

gyscrym, what else would you want to know?

Bomper · 31/10/2005 19:21

Just thought I would give a quick update, as if anyone's really that interested . We bought one today - hurrah, can't pick it up till Friday though which I am a bit miffed about, as I have been car-less now for over a week and am going a bit loopy!! Took a diesel for a test-drive first, but didn't get on at all with it. Don't know if there was a problem with it but it seemed really sluggish, so we then tried a petrol one and loved it. Only prob is dh didn't like the colour, but let's face it, that's not really top of our priorities. So, anyway I am now officially in the Picasso drivers gang!!

Picked up my car yesterday, and just as I was about to drive away the salesman said 'Oh by the way, the spare wheels a really easy to nick, so you may want to get a lock fitted.' Is this true? Has it happened to any of you? Has anyone had a lock fitted, if so how much did it cost? TIA.

Woo-hoo! Congratulations - hope you enjoy it Bomper!

What colour did you get?

No idea about btw about the spare wheel being nickable, not heard that before. Will ask dh.

Bomper · 05/11/2005 13:12

It's called Glacial Blue, it's quite a bright metallic blue. Apparantly, they only made it in that colour for about 6 months. I really like it, dh hates it, says it's 'too girly', but seeing as I am going to be driving it most of the time, it doesn't really matter.

I really love it, keep looking out of the window at it, pathetic isn't it?

We got our Picasso just over a month ago, and I still look longingly out of my front window at it! I love it!! Ours is a diesel though and I wouldn't say it was sluggish, so maybe there was something wrong with the one youe test drove. Hope you enjoy it!

WigWamBam · 05/11/2005 13:33

Bomper, apparently the spare wheel is easily nickable, dh used to go on a discussion site for Picasso owners here , (sad or what ) and it's something that he says was mentioned a lot there.

That said, we've had ours for 4 years and it's never been nicked.

Citroen apparently do a kit that you can buy and install yourself, so you wouldn't need to pay anyone to install it.

Bomper · 05/11/2005 13:50

Thanks WWB, the guy at the Citroen garage said they could do it for us for about £100, which seemed a bit steep. Will have to look into it. By the way, love your nickname. It's such a great song

Bomper-Ours is the same colour and that's why I chose it.Also Dh wanted a diesel and it just so happened to be that!
Hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoy ours.

jane313 · 05/11/2005 16:45

We had a xsara when the spare wheel was stolen. (In an ikea car park) We had to buy a new spare but citroen paid for the bolt to be fitted as its a design fault. (they will onlyp ay if you have reported it to the police) We now have a picasso and got one fitted straight away. I really love it. The height is great and the storage.

monkeytrousers · 05/11/2005 19:27

Same as ours Aloha! They're great. Lots of window room.

Loub99 · 15/11/2005 20:56

Just found this site tonight, I am thinking of this type of car too. I am a mum to a 4 year old and a childminder to a 4 year old and a 2 year old and hopeful a 1 year old in the near future. currently cramming everyone into a tiny two door peugeot. Need a car that will take four car seats, does anyone know about airbags and forward facing car seats?

hullabaloo · 15/11/2005 21:34

The airbag in the front passenger seat can be switched off id you need to put a baby seat in the back. I have only tried two kids seats in the back one full car seat (quite wide and one booster seat and there was pleny of room for an adult in the middle. Also the middle seat in the back doesn't have that big annoying lump where you put your feet. The floor is the same level. (Does that make sense?) I love mine and theere's loads of room in the back for buggies etc. I have managed to get a full pram and my DS's bike and some shopping in. I was well impressed!

hotmama1 · 15/11/2005 21:41

Loub99 - I have a Picasso and used to have a Peugeot 206 - which was very small in comparison. I have a 13 month dd and am expecting dd2 at the end of Jan/beginning of Feb.

I find my Picasso fab - there is loads of legroom in the back, and being high up is fab for putting dd in her carseat - I have got backache at the moment. The passenger seats have 'airline style trays' on the back so will be really useful for my dd's when they are older.

I would say that getting 3 carseats in the back shouldn't be a problem and I believe that putting carseats in the front seat is O.K. as long as you 'turn off' the airbags (I did this in my Peugeot).

I love the high driving position - really happy with the car. HTH

As you are aware, I have only had my Picasso 2 short weeks, but I LOVE it. All 3 of my kids have plently of room in the back, high driving position is great and dead easy to manuovere. Don't regret it one bit!!
