The old boy 8 doors up died last week. The funeral car has just left. I had no idea, normally someone comes and does a collection so they can buy flowers from the street. I haven't had any contact with any of the neighbours recently. I fel so terrible because he was lovely and always said morning and even helped DH with his car one day when someone had cut the petrol line.
At least the funeral car came down the street so I could pay my last repect to him.

Could you get some flowers & put them on his doorstep.

spooklymieow · 27/10/2005 12:05

Thing is I am not sure if anyone will be coming back to his house, I could leave them with Diane (his neighbour)

Sounds a good idea smieow. At least you could pay your last respects when the car went down your street

The chances are that Diane did a collection last week while we were away, but I normally put into the collections because this street has many older people and they are all lovely and I have been here 5 1/2 years and know most people in the street. I just feel terrible because I didn't put into the collection for a lovely man.

Instead of feeling terrible, buy a small bunch of flowers and put them in your kitchen window and remember him that way. He won't mind.

Thanks Kbear. I think with everything that happened with AM and co. and the devils kids, I just feel that I have been excluded from the neighbourhood IYKWIM. I know that Diane would have done a collection, and she could have missed me. I just don't feel part of the community here anymore and this man was so sweet and kind and never judged me and DH on our appearance (we are a bit punky) and was always smiling, so am gutted that noone told me that he had died.

yeah, I understand why you feel that after all the goings on. Perhaps like you say you were excluded by accident because you were away and she never got a chance to come back to you.

spooklymieow · 27/10/2005 12:28

I think that Diane wouldn't have missed me out on purpose, she still chat to me if she see me in the street. I was away last week so must have missed the collection.

BTW I know she would have done a collection because she always does the collections.

When I was a student lived next to an old man - we'd check on him, have tea, chat & once took him on a day trip to where he used to spend his summer hols with his family. Was sad when he died - his family didn't tell the students next door when it was the funeral.

spooklymieow · 27/10/2005 12:39

I couldn't want to go to the funeral, I didn't know him well enough. I have only been to one of the neighbours funeral, because I knew him from a early age, but the others I have put into the collections, and paid my repects when the car comes down the street.

Know what you mean Smieow - we didn't even know when the car would be at the house & missed it. Wouldn't have wanted to be at the funeral but just to have been able to say what a great bloke he was.

spooklymieow · 27/10/2005 20:26

I am still shocked that i had no idea, I feel like noone wants to involve me now (maybe they are worried I will report them, when in fact I only reported AM) Silly thoughts, I know.
