How do you handle diet saboteurs?

What do you do when you're on a diet and its going well and your (so called) friend, whose diet isn't going well, try to force tempt you to eat something they know is fattening and which you really don't want? It makes you feel rude if you keep saying no to their persistent "go on, have some!"

I would be blunt. And say in case you didn't realise I am on a diet. I am actually working hard with it and am proud of my achievements. I would really appreciate it if you supported me too.

If that didn't work I think I would actually be a bit rude and say.
You know I am on a diet and I actually want it to work, so stop offering ne fatty food just to make you feel better.

Be strong and be proud of yourself! Well done!

I would never be on a diet so unflexible that it could not accomodate eating something 'fattening' with a friend. If I wanted to eat whatever it was, I'd eat it. If I didn't fancy it, I wouldn't. Just like anything else. I wouldn't consider someone offering me something tasty to eat offensive or consider them 'diet saboteurs'.

Enjoying a snack with a friend is good for you.

Have you ever been on a successful diet MsScarlett?

Why on earth would you advocate that those watching their weight should be obliged to eat cake with their friends - to what end precisely? Confused

I manage perfectly well visiting friends and just drinking tea - and they don't mind at all because it is no skin off their nose!

MrsFizzywig · 17/03/2011 21:28

Skiboo I'm the same with refined carbs, so my diet is basically low GI and is working. Grin
Greek frying cheese is great for low GI. Enjoy!

Never say "oh I'd love to but I'm being good". Just say bluntly "no thanks" and if you're pressed say 'no don't want it thanks'

MrsFizzywig · 17/03/2011 21:30

MissScarlett its not about being inflexible, its about the friends lack of support! Its kind of upsetting.

well it's Lent so you might have given up whatever you are offered, or you have already had too much to eat, or you feel sick, or you are doing one of those fasting glucose tolerance tests, or are getting over diarrhoea and are on bowel rest, or you are meeting someone for big lunch or dinner later, or are excluding wheat or dairy or whatever - if people are annoying enough to keep pushing food you don't want they deserve to be lied to?

I am my own saboteur anyway so none of this is any help to me
