You want to track down Sparkler shes down that way.I think canford heath might be a bit iffy, I think canford cliffs is millionaires row. Its been a while since I lived in dorset though

Kittypickle · 22/10/2005 21:58

Sparkler1 lives there, I think she's pretty happy with it. I'm sure she'll be along to tell you more.

spookylucy · 22/10/2005 22:00

ooh, sorry Sparkler, i can only vaguely remember, I lived in Parkstone, so ive got nothing to crow about

Kittypickle · 22/10/2005 22:08

Sorry spookylucy, you weren't there when I posted ! I think it depends what you're after really. Canford Heath is a large modern estate with a wide variety of houses. There an Asda (not huge), post office etc and probably more that I've never seen. No ideas what the schools are like as I've never looked into it. I would guess that there will be plenty of young families there if that's what you are after.

I'm a bit further up the road in a place called Colehill, which is sort of a suburb of Wimborne. I love it here. DD's school has just had a completely outstanding Ofsted report so we've been really lucky with that. We come under Dorset rather than Poole. We've got the lower, middle and upper school system that I've got a feeling that Poole is changing from. Once of the local estate agents for here is Christopher Batten

As kittypickle said its a large modern estate - due for expansion according to the local papers and everyone I know that lives there likes it.

My niece goes to Canford Heath First school and loves it and it is near to Poole, Broadstone and Wimborne.

Did you say you are a childminder? They have a good nursery on Canford Heath so I'm told called cuddles that is very popular. Not sure if thats helpful or not

Again really depends on what kind of place you are looking for.

Perhaps you could describe kind of place and we could suggest places like it?

Good luck with your search.

jellyjelly · 24/10/2005 10:33

Is it a paid nursery for day care or is it a state one?

Dou you want to live in Canford Heath or anywhere nearby. I had a lovely couple of years in Parkstone.

jellyjelly · 24/10/2005 11:06

Welooked at parkstone the houses looked bigbut the area didnt look so nice on websites like upmy street where as canford seems to be more family orientated.

Where did you live in Parkstone as was it a family area?

I lived on the Poole end of Parkstone, Theres some really nice areas, the bournemouth end was a bit rough. Close to poole for shopping , quay and park. I really like westbourne/Alum chine have you looked there its really near to the beach, sweet little shopping street and really close to bournemouth or poole.

jellyjelly · 24/10/2005 13:51

what is poole like for shopping?

OP posts:
spookylucy · 24/10/2005 14:16

It has a good shopping centre and a long street with shops too. The library is in the shopping centre which has lovely story circles etc. How old are your kids? I'll have a think of age appropriate activities in the area.

Kittypickle · 24/10/2005 14:24

jellyjelly, give us your wish list as muppet73 says & budget (if that's not too rude a question) then we can see what we can come up with. When you say is Poole OK for shopping, what exactly are you after, the main department stores ? smaller more unusual shops ? Amynnixmum & Starry both live in Parkstone, there's two bits - upper and lower Parkstone. Lower Parkstone is the posh bit with house prices to match. Upper Parkstone is mixed, there are a couple of rough bits but some bits are nice and there's a park thing (well a green space, not exactly sure what it is) that looks nice. I lived not far from Parkstone in a place called Oakdale for a bit that was fine. But it really does come down to exactly what you're looking for.

jellyjelly · 24/10/2005 15:00

would like to pay 180k can go to 200k must have 3 beds wouldlike 4 and separate living /dining room, not a small kitchen, utility room if poss. Off road parking and garage.

Main priority is getting a good primary school for ds and nearby children as i am a childminder so need to be near toddlers.

Doesnt have to be neat to too many shops but enought to get pint of milk, butchers, grocers that sort of thing.

Tend to like the older style houses as they seem to be bigger than the modern ones.

Kittypickle · 25/10/2005 21:13

Do you mean something like this or is the kitchen too small ? I think really you need to come down and have a good drive around Canford Heath, Parkstone, Creekmoor, Oakdale with a map and start marking off the roads you think are OK, that's what we did when we were looking so we had a good idea what we would or wouldn't look for. All of those areas have a fair amount of children around. Maybe you could get a list of childminders and ring a couple to see if they have spaces - that way you'd get an idea of how busy they are. I know that friend's of mine have had a complete nightmare sorting out childcare here, but what it's like in different areas I don't know.

Does it have to be Poole ? There are a few Mnetters who live in Bournemouth who can advise you on areas of Bournemouth you could look at.

jellyjelly · 25/10/2005 22:48

Had a look at that one, we will be down in the area in a few weeks time to look around the area, we drove around springbourne/southbourne and whilst it was really nice the houses were worth a pretty penny. Will keep looking thanks for the advice.
