using the tumbler dryer in winter - when I could have been hanging the damn clothes over the radiators ! For the first time ever - last night before I went to bed I folded the double sheets and duvet cover and hung two of them over the radiators - and one over the banister - that was at 1am (after the heating had gone off - but they were still warm). The heating comes back on again from 5-8 - and when I got up at 8am they were dry - and because they were already partially folded all I had to do was finish folding and put away. Hung some stuff on the line today - but it was too cold to dry properly and I've managed to get the whole lot finished drying in less than 2hrs.

Feel really blonde (bet you're all thinking - "stupid woman - why didn't she think of that before" ). But it'll certainly help keep the electricity bill slightly lower over winter

ARe tumble dryers expensive to run? we don't have one. I have turned our posh dining room into a chinese laundry for the winter (due to too cold to put outside too). I have strung up string between all the curtain rails it looks great and will only be removed if we have dinner guests. We never use the room otherwise.

we've got one of those extra economical tumble dryers which go all night. I don't use it that much ( apart from when I'm very lazy ).

Instead I hang clothes on coat hangers & hang them in the door frames. Almost gauranteed to be dry the next morning. Also hang towels on the trouser hangers. DH hates it

Honestly! QOQ, you dont do us blondes any favours do you

HRHQoQ · 21/10/2005 00:15

Yes they are quite pricey - even when used in the night when it costs less. All that hot air you see . Ours is actually a washer/dryer - so even less economical

ahh, we used to have a washer dryer. I found it more 'screwed up the clothes into an unholy mess' than dried them. It was awful, never used it. and the clothes came out so hot you literally burnt yourself on them.

My mil has a Meile. I aspire to one. its brill.

Tumble dryers going alongside central heating........
Greenhouses without glass........
Tsk tsk tsk

bobbybob · 21/10/2005 00:27

Yes, but where is all the water going? Could you be saving money to spend on new wallpaper when it all falls off?

HRHQoQ · 21/10/2005 00:29

the water is going out the kitchen window - the washing machine is under the sink in the kitchen - no wallpaper in sight (and stone tile floors so it's not getting under there either ).

Wasting water too.................

QueenVictoria · 21/10/2005 00:32
Wink
HRHQoQ · 21/10/2005 00:33

no no no - not wasting it - it steams up my kitchen window (if I forget to open it) and I them have to wipe the windows to get rid of it......thus cleaning them in the process .

Nice save with the steam cleaning blag.....

I have a Minky airing rack and a banister rail (about 10' long) and between them I get most things ¾ dry in the winter, then finish them off in the dryer (no ironing that way). It is a pita having the wet stuff hanging around the house but as long as I can keep on top of the laundry (1 load a day most days) it works very well.

Ah... at last... a tumble drier post - a question that has been really bugging me but I though it too ridiculous to bring to the MN forum (thanks HRH for bringing this subject up!) in the past but now I'll give it a go (even though most of you are probably sleeping by now!) has anyone got one of those "condenser thingies"... A big box that you fix the tumble drier vent to... I ordered it from Kleeneze thinking it would save opening the back door to let hot air out and had no idea until it came you had to fill it with ice!! Does anyone else have one?

Think I might have misunderstood the german instructions as the room still gets ever so steamed up... and I'm sure I'm doing everything right?

sohow much electricity do they use if they are going all night on the cool section ? I'm a bit worried, but not sure where I can find out ?
