  • Indian cotton tops and skirts (or with worn out jeans
  • Patchouly oil
  • Joss sticks
  • genesis/ Led Zepplin/ AC/dc; all still goign strong/ Deep Purple
  • Army surplus green jacket to wear on top
  • leather boots
  • embroidered denim jackets - some with tassles (I was the girl favoured by all the boys at the Youth club 'cos I could do the embroidered stuff on the back
  • head-banging with long hair (girls and boys)
  • black eyeliner
  • and everyone drove a Citroen Dyane

WHAT WAS THAT ALL ABOUT???????

moondog · 20/10/2005 19:08

Saw Angus interviewed the other day. He's just a shy middle aged bloke with a receding hairline now.
[horrified emoticon]

Back in Black is still one of the best bloody albums in the whole world though.

She was a fast machine
She kept her motor clean
She was the best damned woman that I ever seen

Rock and ROLLLLLLLL!

spidermama · 20/10/2005 19:09

Don't fear the reaper - Blue Oyster Cult!
I did dh a compilation tape for the car called Middleaged Spread with Steppenwolf- Born to be Wild, Teenage Kicks - Undertones, Stairway to heaven, The Only Ones - Another Girl Another Planet, Buzzcocks, Blinded by the light - (Manfred Mann's earth Band was it?)Deep Purple and all sorts like that. Well the kids HATE it when we play it in the car ''are you going to be singing loud again mummy. And bunmping your heads around?''

Blandmum · 20/10/2005 19:49

Shall I admit something dreadful...much as I love Don't Fear the reaper by BOC, I love the cover by the Beautiful South....done to a Salsa beat....it is stunning!

And Rush, Spirit of Radio

Blandmum · 20/10/2005 19:50

Love Gary Gilmores Eyes but I know that is a bit punky

mummyhill · 20/10/2005 19:50

Sounds good too me fmf. dd age 3 hasn't realised that mummy and daddy are uncool yet and joins in. she likes queen, chillies and g'n'r.

spidermama · 20/10/2005 19:53

I know you weren't supposed to be in both camps, and my big sister was a punk so I wasn't allowed to be, but I did like lots of punk.

But that's a whole 'nother thread.

HRHWickedwaterwitch · 20/10/2005 19:55

Gawd, yes, I wore

blonde hair with deliberate v dark roots and a perm. nice.
lots and lots of black eyeliner, you could hardly see my eyes
Legwarmers held up with a suspender belt worn outside my jeans
combined with high heeled cowboy boots
combined with skintight jeans, ewww. Really obscenely tight. I was thin.
a leather jacket
patchouli
drugs
a biker boyfriend

and I remember
Black Sabbath
Motorhead
The house of the rising sun by The Animals, still takes me back to being surrounded by bikers in a biker pub (The William IV in Salisbury was at the time!)
Snakebite and black
pernod and black
malibu and milk

I'd post a picture if I had one!

spidermama · 20/10/2005 19:56

Some brave admissions there www.
I commend your honesty.

spidermama · 20/10/2005 19:57

What drugs by the way?

Zephyrrywitchescat · 20/10/2005 20:07

Ooh I like this thread - makes me feel at home!! I was brought up on Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zep, Lynard Skynard (sp!), Janice Joplin etc then into thew 80's with guns n roses, The Cult, Gary Moore, Tom Petty, Dave Lee Roth and so many others I can't remember!! But basically my Mum rocked lol She used to make sandwiches for the Hells Angels clubhouse meetings pmsl!! My Dad used to build choppers in the garden and still is a biker and rides a Harley
There's pics of me aged about 3 sitting on a chopper giving the bird!!

DP would love this thread too - he loves his rock!!

Mo2 · 20/10/2005 20:37

OMG - NOSTALGIA attack!!!

This was so what I was like in the early -80s.... not that I think anyone would believe it now!

Was living at home in the North East and used to hang out with all the others at Newcastle's Handyside Arcade (sadly demolished for a faceless shopping centre now).

Boyfriend was a 'nice' rocker - looked the part in every way, but without the drugs or excessive alcohol,, but oh yes, Snakebite... (had forgotton that! And the neck ache on a SUnday Morning....

Oh pleeeeeeeeeeeease, can we have a Mumsnet Rock Reunion?????

Someone organise?

Where do you go for this music/ stuff these days?

mummyhill · 20/10/2005 20:45

Am sat here with kerrang on the telly - thankyou sky tv. Wake up every morning to kerrang radio one good thing about living in the midlands.

We have costermongers, edwards no8, and a few other venues in birmingham city center.

good nights were had at rock city in nottingham.

Really miss the days of the power ballards but some of the new stuff isn't to bad either.

ScarySkribble · 20/10/2005 21:29

I wore tassled skirts both long and short, I had everyday ones and dressy ones, my favourite had tassles longer than the actual skirt.
Black Doc Martins only 18 hole,
black opaque tights,
velvet tops,
lots of black eyeliner but definatlly not goth. (They were a different lot altogether).
Black leather jacket with skull picture on the back and bands names all over the sleeves (borrowed from some guy).
Going out we wore black, red or purple mini dresses, my fav was a purple sort of seersucker thing v tight and plain black suede court shoes (that was sofistication).

I regret that I don't have any photos of me at that time in my life, before we all got serious and got jobs and settled down.

spidermama · 20/10/2005 21:38

I still buy patchouli insence sticks. Most evocative.
