I've taken the first step to signing up on the 9 week course to become a Homestart volunteer/visitor.

Is there anyone out there who is already doing it?

I'd love to hear all about it

started the course and loved it, it sounds right for me
beetroot go for itif you can help someone, I think that makes a difference.
coddy-that is a really nice idea, how did you become a mentor.

IDismyname · 09/12/2003 22:58

How are you getting on, doormat?

We've done 6 weeks, then are taking a break and starting again mid January. I've found the course pretty thought provoking - especially as it's first thing on a Monday morning! Getting to grips with the realities of domestic violence and some of the other (heavy) stuff has been quite hard work, but suspect it's just because my brain has been dormant for so long

IDismyname · 22/01/2004 13:01

Doormat - Are you still there? We're finishing our course next week, and... GULP... I'm being allocated my family next Friday.

Homestart won't tell me anything until my appointment. I just want to get going!

Good luck with your family. I love visiting mine. I'm on second family. My first was "challenging" and didn't really want help. This family are lovely but find it difficult with 3 under 3.I help practically rather than with advice.

IDismyname · 27/01/2004 16:25

Mummysurfer - I have my "Exit Interview" this Friday, and hope to meet them early next week. I'm sure it will be very different from what I'm expecting. If I'm terrified, they must be too!!!

i no longer see my family regularly. she returned to work and is coping just fine.
i'm not getting a new family until sept as a new family need time committment and i can't give that over the school summer holidays

Beccarollover · 29/06/2004 13:32

Hi just searched for this after finding the other thread - can anyone tell me how doing the course and helping families fits in with young kids of your own - I really want to volunteer for Homestart but not sure on the logistics of it.
