Ds1 has joined the village cricket team and has come home requesting a long list of equipment...
so... advice and recommendations please, on what's needed and where I can get it cheap.
and talking of a box, how do they attach?

You buy special pants with a pouch!

cricket trousers and shirt
pads
bat
helmet
box pants!

sports direct / general google

Ingles2 · 24/02/2011 22:39

ah, ok,... saw the box on sports direct, but no pants.they'll probably have them in store.
So can we get away with a £10 bat,? a proper bat, just cheap? or do you need some particular type?
I can't cope with the cost of all this sport, it'll bankrupt me.

and spikes! very important, how could I forget! My ds broke his arm playing cricket - fielding and running on wet grass - because I hadn't bothered to get him spikes and he was just wearing trainers...

bad mum award to me then Sad

also white skins, and a jumper!

You need to buy a pair of special pant like these.

The box goes in the pouch at the front. Just hover you cursor over the picture in the link for detailed views.

Sports shops do cheap cricket gear in out of season sales. Buy now not in May/June.

I think you do get what you pay for pretty much with a bat. A £10 bat will split as soon as it's hit by a proper cricket ball. How old is your ds?

BeenBeta · 24/02/2011 22:43

Does the club have kit he can borrow? Some do.

Lilymaid · 24/02/2011 22:44

Spikes definitely worthwhile in the usual English summer. Pullover also might come in useful - especially in May. Unless he is a saint, he'll also be after whatever is the fashionable batas endorsed by some international player (and a batting glove would also help to protect his hand).

Youllskimmer · 24/02/2011 22:46

How old is he?

bananafrosting · 24/02/2011 22:47

I think bats are supposed to be willow, Kashmir willow is cheaper but English willow is better - kashmir fine for beginners. Careful to buy the right size for your son, must be measured properly because if the bat is too big he won't be able to play properly.

Ask if the club does a second hand sale for kit, people are growing out of stuff and replacing it every year (helmets less frequently).

bananafrosting · 24/02/2011 23:08

actually I take it back about the bats, this looks absolutely fine!

Ingles2 · 24/02/2011 23:10

Thanks all
Blimey, I think he might need to wait a while for this lot. I'll talk to the club and see if they have 2nd hand. My problem is he's 11, yr 6 but the height of a 14/15 yr old with size 8 feet! And growing all the time.
