How can I liven up my DD's curtains?

I'd like to make DD's bedroom into a bit more of a little girls room instead of the baby nursery that it is now but without actually redecorating. The curtains are very good quality heavy lined and they are only a few years old so i dont really wnat to replace them but they are cream waffle (with little teddy bear buttons on at the bottom which will come off easily). Any ideas please for what i can add/attach to them to brighten them up a bit. The carpet is only 2 years old so that's staying to (it's very neutral) and I've just so far bought a few lilac storage boxes for her toys etc. and I want to go for a lilac / pink scheme.
Any tips at all gratefully received. I am crap with a capital C at things like this.

ps. I have bought just one roll of a wavy stick-on border type thing which is in lilac although i have no idea exactly what i'm going to do with it (but not use it as an all over border though, I know that much)

look in a hobby store liek hobbycraft for little girly pink and purple things that you can applique/sew onto the curtains. they often have loads of stuff. e.g little fabric dolls, flowers, felt letters etc.

... or sew a big chunk of dusty pink velour fabric to the base of the curtain. (about 1/3-1/4 of the height of the curtain from the base)

You can buy really pretty, brightly coloured butterflies and clip them onto the curtains, esp good if you are crap with a needle & thread!

oh I like your way of thinking ThomBat! Any idea what sort of shops I will find those things in? I do need to visit John Lewis in the next week or so and as luck would have it i've just checked the websites and there is a John lewis in Watford and a Hobbycraft too and that's not too far from me so I'll visit both and hopefully get inspired. thanks girls. any tips for the walls etc?

I got mine from Letterbox, or urchin or something, will have a look for you.
i also got a few from the butterfly house gift shop!

thanks very much ThomBat. I've just ordered some of the GLTC ones, plus some snazzy door handles and some 'Wallies Butterfly' which I think I can stick on the walls etc. Guess we'll be having a butterfly theme huh?

Iave pencil pleat curtains in dd's room, and I have stitched on some ribbons on the pleat bit. Everybody who see's them comments on how unusal they are. Perhaps you could sew some lilac ribbons onto the curtains.

thanks Jenkel, that sounds like a nice idea. are the ribbons just attached at the very top?
Even I should be able to manage that huh?

Yes and tied in a bow, with quite long strands. DD has apricot coloured curtains, cream and apricot walls, cream carpet and her border has a turquoise blue in, so the bows are in turquoise. I've also tied bows to the tie backs.
