SenoraPostrophe · 17/10/2005 19:46

dank u is dutch. just checked and obrigado is portuguese for "debtor" (according to babelfish - probably has another more common meaning)

tak - no idea.

Gobbledispook · 17/10/2005 19:47

obrigado is thank you isn't it? I could be wrong!

NotQuiteCockney · 17/10/2005 19:49

Icelandid uses tak as well - I think a lot of the Scanihoovian languages are the same for that.

Lonelymum · 17/10/2005 19:49

obrigado is the Portuguese word for thank you. TBH, I assumed they all meant thank you.

LilacBump · 17/10/2005 19:49

thank you in lots of languages

takk is norwegian

LilacBump · 17/10/2005 19:50

Lonelymum · 17/10/2005 19:51

Love the thoinks moite for Australians, but surely the English one should be cheers! Or am I the only person who uses that irritating word for that particular meaning?

zippitippitoes · 17/10/2005 19:51

Furball · 17/10/2005 19:58

Tak = yes in polish

RottenRhubarb · 17/10/2005 20:06

Sounds like my ds's speak to me!

Blu · 17/10/2005 20:22

Obrigado is Portugese for thank you when said either to or by (can't remember which!) a man. Obrigada if it's a woman.

Tak - yes they do say that in Norway. Tak Tak if they are REALLY grateful!

Arabica · 17/10/2005 20:49

Icelandic spelling pedant here. The word for thanks is 'takk', ie, 2 ks.
