Today ds and I walking home from school.
2 mopeds speeding along (their noise made us turn and look) obviously racing. Came to a speed bump in the road (its a 20mph zone) and one lost control, flew off his scooter right under a van Shock

I was, to begin with, the only adult around. Called the ambulance.....

Saw a friend, she took ds away. I stayed and did what I could until police, ambulance, fire brigade arrived and gave a statement.

Stupid stupid boy (just 17) playing silly buggers with a mate (who fled the scene).

Poor poor van driver who will no doubt be feeling totally shit when there was nothing he could have done.

Not sure why I'm posting really. Is it weird to be feeling cross? I am really cross with the mindless boy, and wonder whether he will change his ways. I spoke to a policeman later on and he told me that he had sustained "none life-threatening, none life-changing injuries". I hope it is enough to make him change his ways.

I feel really sorry for ds having to witness that (the screams were awful).

Sorry this is a totally disjointed post but feel the need to get it out iyswim.
Thanks.

When I was a London bus driver in the 90's, I witnessed a man in flames in front of parliament. I ran across with a fire extinguisher, but someone else (thankfully) got to him first. I was feeling very, very emotional, shaken up etc. Then on my way home that night, I heard on the news that he'd died and that he'd set himself alight as a one man demonstation against something or other...I was as angry as HELL!!! I was angry that he'd put me through all of that. I think anger is normal and I hope you and your Ds and the van driver are Ok.

Posey how awful for you and DS - hope you are both ok?

I saw something simimlar posey, in Sheffield about 10 years ago. A motorbike turned right out of a petrol station, lorry coming down the road did not see him and mb went right under lorry. It was horrific, and very much lorry drivers fault. Someone else called an ambulance and police. Motorcyclist asked me to ring his wife of 2 weeks. The police told me that he died a few days later. I still think about it, and will never, never let DS ride a motorbike as long as I can help it. I even worry about a young lad in my work team who rides a mc.

Thank you for your replies and sorry you too have been through similar Sad

I originally posted this in the AIBU section, starting with AIBU to be really really pissed off that this little shit has ruined so many people's day, may give ds nightmares, will have caused who knows what suffering to the van driver...

Then I thought better of it incase people said don't be so selfish, think of the poor boy and his injuries. Of course I do. I saw the poor thing (only 4 years older than my dd) crying and groaning on my lap as I supported his head. My mothering instinct took over.

Later, when I went to collect ds from my friends, I got really cross with the "friend" on the other moped who just rode off.

I chatted with ds tonight before bed. I don't want to build it up into something if he's okay (there was no blood or gore fortunately) and ds seems more concerned with how smashed the moped was and how far some of the bits went. I don't really think he could see the boy trapped under the van wheels.

Dh isn't in, which is why I'm offloading here, so thank you for helping me understand my mixed emotions.

I saw a man knocked off his motor bike in our road in Bamgkok. He pulled round our car and was knocked off by one coming the other way. Unfortunately, as is very common, he wasn't wearing a helmet and there was a lot of carnage. DD was about three years old.
The traffic came to a halt and people ran out of shops and bars with phones to take photographs of him and his number plate to help them with lucky numbers on the lottery.
DD was understandably upset and I told her they were making a film.
I was really angry about the waste of his life, and even angrier when it emerged the person who killed this young man paid a sum of money for charges to be dropped.

Blimey kreecherlivesupstairs that sounds horrific.

Ds was fine this morning. Asked me if the road would still be closed (it wasn't) and then whe we walked past on way to school he wanted to know why there was lots of sand on the road.
He's keen on sorting out all the practicalities Smile
