I'm cleaning and defrosting it today. Should an empty fridge be unplugged?

depends how soon they will be moving in. If you don't know or its more than a day or two leave it unplugged and open. That prevents mould. I knew our purchasers were arriving the same day so I left it plugged in and with milk in the fridge, even though they wre obnoxious.

I would leave it plugged in.

our house is up for sale and we're hopefully going to be moving soon. tatt - i'd be made up if we moved in and i found the fridge still on with milk in it. thats a really nice thing to do

well we had started the milk, lucykate, and there weren't any local shops for them to buy it. They'd paid for the dishwasher and washing machine so they had a little bit of powder, dishwasher salt, rinse aid. Didn't do it this time but I've always left something in the cupboard when we moved before as my mother was superstitious about empty larders/ purses. Its supposed to ensure that they'll be happy in their new home Some people leave bottles of wine but I'm not that generous, I leave a little tea - and bickies if the sale went smoothly.

We got a dozen eggs - which ds is allergic to. My mum ate them and put the shells in the compost bin and now wants to know why I never use my compost.

Our buyer is just getting a couple tins of beans, a box of tea, a just-opened jar of instant coffee. I'll have to unplug the fridge as he won't be moving in for a couple of weeks. Thanks all!

If it is going to be a few weeks , unplug it but leave the door a little ajar so it doesn't mildew inside.

Yes do leave the door open - in fact wedge it open if you can, just to make sure it doesn't get closed by accident.
