I am almost betting I get absolutely no response to this.

depends on what the pill is made of, surely?

CreepyJess · 12/10/2005 16:00

10 - 20 mins probably..

hunkerpumpkin · 12/10/2005 16:00

What kind of pill is it?

Some are coated (I know you can get coated Voltarol) to make sure they get further down into the system and do more good, for instance.

How are you?

TrickorTwiglett · 12/10/2005 16:00

500mg Ciprofloxacin

now can you answer it?

Oh, my sweetheart, please please don't despair.

If it makes you feel ANY better, I'm feeling guilty for finding it much easier at work than looking after DS as he's just started wanting to walk everywhere or be picked up by me and I'm getting SPD-like pain under my bump. Actually, not sure how this will make you feel better - but going to post it anyway, so you have something else to read on your thread that will get no responses

But you're ill and you don't need to be beating yourself up about not being able to do things - what would you be saying to any of us if the situation was reversed?

Can I give you a snurkum? {{{{{{Twiglett}}}}}}

hunkerpumpkin · 12/10/2005 16:07

I'd ring NHS Direct to ask them if you need to take another one. I'm only googling for info - I don't know medical stuff. If Floss is about, you could ask her?

geraldgiraffe · 12/10/2005 16:10

Ah, see why you want to know now. I would have thought it would enter the bloodstream quite quickly on an empty stomach, but my sister is a pharmacist, so i could always ring her if you don't get any joy from anywhere else?

PottytheVampireSlayer · 12/10/2005 16:11

www.formulary.cht.nhs.uk/pdf,_doc_files_etc/MMC/25_Ciprofloxacin/Ciprofloxacin.pdf

This says peak concentration 0.5-2 hours after dosage if that helps.

Sorry that you're no better Twig. It must be so depressing when you aren't seeing any improvement.

CreepyJess · 12/10/2005 16:12

Twiglett if you were sick an hour later then your body had probably already digested the tablet. Doctors have told me (re DS) that as long as he is not sick within half an hour of having medication then his body will have 'used' it so you should be fine.

Hope you feel better soon

5.2 Pharmacokinetic properties

Absorption of oral doses of ciprofloxacin tablet formulation occurs rapidly, mainly from the small intestine, the half-life of absorption being 2-15 minutes. Plasma levels are dose-related and peak 0.5-2.0 hours after dosing.

From the company info - so you will have absorbed the majority of the dose

CreepyJess · 12/10/2005 16:50

Did you know that if you were exposed to decent sunlight, you would get a lovely sun tan on Cipro?? ) (Trying to look on the positive side! )

Why are you on it Twiglet if you don't mind me asking? DS1 has just finished a course. He has cystic fibrosis and has a chronic pseudomonas infection (Not that HE cares!!)

Oh, twiglett. This is the second post I've seen where you sound so sad. So unlike you. I really hope you start to feel much better very soon. xxx

BTW, analgesia is supposed to start working when taken orally in about 20mins. So that is probably about the amount of time it takes to start breaking down and being absorbed. Depends if you were swallowing small islands but i'd say an hour should have cleared it easy, especially on an empty stomach, which incidentally might have been the reason you started puking... It's a take with food tablet isn't it?
