Does anyone else find the playground a bit daunting? Some mums really work it and others talk to no-one. I like chatting to people but don't know anyone really well so usually hot foot it asap! Think it would be different if my friends were there.Wouldn't be able to drag myself away!

i never did that - sont see why i should get myself embroiled in a bitch fest and one upmanship over who has the brainiest kid and who did the best art project and who had the most expensive hired costume

lifes too short for that shit - i used to drop them off and walk off quick - when they got older i didn't even get out of the car.

now they are in senior school i havent seen another parent for 2 years

I do it at playgroup, is that classed as playground? I like it, it took me ages to walk home yesterday as I kept bumping into people I knew. Which made me feel quite pleased as I only moved here a few years ago not knowing anybody.

I've made loads of friends in the playground, in fact I'm going to 'breakfast' with two other mums tomorrow morning after we've dropped the kids off at school. So I guess I'm in the 'love it' camp.

Lucycat · 11/10/2005 19:23

it's the only way I get to find out what on earth they do all day!

twinsetandpearls · 11/10/2005 19:25

Dd is at preschool and I chat to many of the Mums and haven't found it to be a bitchfest, like oliveoil I find it nice that altough we haven't been here long people know who we are and we can stop and chat.

LilacBump · 11/10/2005 19:26

it's ok until one of them starts on her DS and his constipation...

Can't bear it. Most of the other mothers are 10-15 years younger than me (and I'm not ancient, believe me), never had a job in their lives, all went to school together, left and got pregnant together, and have never left the town they were born in. The chit-chat is all about what Daz, Baz and Jonesy, or whatever their boyfriends are called, were up to last night.
There are a couple of mums that I get on with, but we don't always see each other as kids are in different classes and get dropped at different doors.

sorry but not at 8.15 in the morning. I do try at afternoon pick up and when waiting around with dd for ds to finish though.

charliebat · 11/10/2005 21:52

Hate it. My bestest friends kids might be going to the same school as my dds and one of my first thoughts was Arrgghhh if she thinks im hanging round the playground chatting im gonna have to disapoint her. I drop off and run, others linger up to 45 mins before and after. WTF???!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had major probs at the school a few weeks back! A few of the mums fell out, shouting obseinitys at each other. the situation got very strained!
I had got friendly with one of the mums ( for the first time, usually keep meslf to meself!)Found out she'd been slateing me as well behind my back( hadnt said anything to her!!)
Have backed off, and stuck to just dropping and picking kids up, if someone says hello, ill politely say hello back...as far as it goes!!
