I've had a quote for £2500 excluding the boiler

Does that sound reasonable?

It's for 6 radiators and all the bits

I'm not sure about the quote itself, but unless you're a scavanging so and so like me, won't it work out expensive on the fuel?? We have a multifuel stove, and unless I spent all summer dragging logs back off dog walks it would cost a fortune over winter!!

I still think of you when I give medicine to DS by the way

Well currently my wood burner costs me about £200 a year, assuming it doubles to cover the cost of the extra heating thats £400

My electric bill is

  • in the summer I use about £375 for 6 months
  • in the winter i use about £700 for 6 months

That's £325 on heating probably

So saving of £125 a year (maybe)

And if I can scavange any that's extra

And I think Oil prices are going to go up rather than down (- so if I get solar panels next I can save on hot water in the summer as well) so a bad idea to put in oil fired heating and we don't get gas

I think my electric bills are terrible btw

If you don't get gas I can see it makes economic sense. And for that matter, if you could get gas it seems to make sense with the price hikes!)

Will you actually get to see the fire with the new system? (I am a romantic old bag at heart!)

Yes I'll see if I can find a link

quite far down on the right but in matt black - not shiney

It's quite plain - but we have a 1950's house

All the other big ones have really fancy fronts and I can't cope with that

Oooh... like it!!!

Ours is the hybrid - our house is 30's so we like the plain variety too. I love the sumo (which can be converted) but would have needed to knock down some walls for the heat output!

Just been chopping an piling logs into the store today funnily enough. Feeling a bit like the homely ones of American Mumsnet now

Yours wouldn't go in our lounge - but I can see the appeal

Does it do hot water?

Did I say American Mumsnet? I meant American wifeswap!

No, ours doesn't convert, but the sumo does. Our lounge is a mish mash of minimalish (as opposed to -ist) 70's and modern and very old too. The stove just adds to the general visual chaos!

I don't have a clue what style mine is (middle england maybe?) it's not old or new or anything really
