depends if u iron well or like i do...ie just to get the massive creases out lol

u should prob think about charging by weight not number of items tho or u may get 60 pairs of curtains!!!!

LadyTophamHatt · 10/10/2005 12:00

ahhh, but I bet they were hankerhiefs or something.....

auntymandy · 10/10/2005 12:01

scaryclary · 10/10/2005 12:01

yeah, were they DH's shirts???
thought not
Doesn't count if they were baby vests or similar!!

auntymandy · 10/10/2005 12:01

thinking £7 an hour seems to be the going rate!

scaryclary · 10/10/2005 12:02

oh sorry x posted, that is impressive actually (like the "biscuits in the oven" just thrown in there too)
I don't iron jeans actually, can't believe anyone irons more than me lol!

auntymandy · 10/10/2005 12:02

only a few small things, dont iron baby stuff!

auntymandy · 10/10/2005 12:03

I iron as little as possible, with 5 kids I cant see the point in ironing vests etc

i'm a bit sad and actually lkie ironing, especially enjoy doing the tinies' stuff (sadly my littlest not so little now) as I can get a big pile of lovely smooth clothes so quickly.

mancmum · 10/10/2005 12:52

where are you -- I will employ you now if you could clear the European ironing mountain threatending to demolish my house...

auntymandy · 10/10/2005 13:04

I am in leeds

auntymandy, I have someone take my ironing away and they charge £1.20 pr llb weight of ironing, which roughly translates as £16-£20 for a bin bag full (depending on what goes in) everything comes back on hangers or folded (which is great) but the hung itmes are usually wrapped in plastic (which I hate - not very enironmentally friendly) There are two main comapanies that do the rounds and they arre both rushed off there feet. Both have expanded into industrial units too.

If you set up your own business, you should have no problems getting work, good luck!

auntymandy · 10/10/2005 13:17

I thought £7 an hour..all folded.

  • £2 if you want me to collect and drop off

That's really fast auntymandy !! My ironing lady does about 23 items in almost 2 hours - usually quite big items - like dh's shirts - and my work skirts and shirts. That's good going too - I always tell her she should slow down !

I get all the grown up clothes done and then I do dd's - I LOVE ironing her stuff - hate ironing his !!

auntymandy · 10/10/2005 15:55

So do you think the rate is ok too?
Will count the next hours too and see how i average out!!

OP posts:
Scatterbrain · 10/10/2005 16:52

Sounds OK to me - you're in Leeds aren't you - I'm in Hampshire and I pay £6.50 ph at the mo - but going up to £8.50 soon - and she collects and delivers for free. People will soon see how quick you are and realise that they ae getting a good deal !

I bet you'll be hugely busy soon - word soon spreads !! Have you thought of dropping off some flyers ? Maybe try and get some into offices - then you could pick up a few bags in one trip and deliver back same way !

auntymandy · 10/10/2005 18:07

Going to put a leaflet in the local shops.
dont want a huge ampunt of customers as I dont have loads of time. Can increase as my free time increases, but dont want to take on more thanI can cope with!

Excellent - Good Luck !!

peckarollover · 10/10/2005 19:28

32 items in an hour is very fast!

i iron for money and im fastidious about standards and to be sure that its perfect it takes way longer than that

auntymandy · 11/10/2005 10:28

I think mine is pretty good! I did 22 in half an hour this morning. Never had a complaint from the family and my eldest son is VERY fussy!

OP posts:
peckarollover · 12/10/2005 08:57

YOu sound like you will be good and make some money then cos the quicker you do it the better £ per hour it is!

auntymandy · 12/10/2005 09:00

how much do you charge?
