Eeek!

judetheobscure · 04/09/2003 18:23

seems a lot - I had a handyman who did jobs like that for £10-20 each. Charges £80 a day.

Slink · 04/09/2003 18:43

Where do you live Twiglett? My dh is very good with all sorts. If you lived near enough I am sure he would help out.

Oh sorry saw it's Dulwich! We are near Guildford. What about putting an ad in the local newsagent for an odd job man? The other bloke sounds like he was trying to rip you off.

Are you a member of your local Residents' Association? Ours has a "Tradesmen You Can Trust" booklet which members contribute to every year. Its worth checking and, if they don't, maybe suggest it and then join!
I think that's a top tip!

Unfortunately he only does decorating now - not all those little jobs that dhs never get around to. So I put up a set of shelves (they haven't fallen down yet), rehung wardrobe door (slightly wonky but it's in the kids room so who cares), polyfillaed(sp?) some holes, done loads of self-assembling. More expert than dh now
