St Annes in Bristol. Anyone know it/anything about it?

I might become a bit of a pest like this over the coming months.

We are hopefully moving to Bristol next year and are thinking of getting a mortgage, well its one possibility anyway. We may be able to consolidate all our debts into the mortgage and therefore be quite a lot better off.

So I've been looking and dreaming. We need to get this right if we loan money for more than the house is worth. We need to be sure that the house (and us!) are right. Knowle we have pretty much ruled out as the schools don't seem too good.

St Annes though seems to offer some affordable houses and quite good schools. So before I go off nosing around I'd appreciate it if anyone could tell me any reasons not to go there! Thanks!

Live. I don't live there btw! wouldn't this be nice? Although if it didn't have parking I wouldn't be interested in Bath, quite frankly!

HRHWickedwaterwitch · 09/10/2005 14:20

Btw, when I was searching on sites for you just now I was searching up to £150k as I reckon you ought to be able to haggle big time in this market and if you're prepared to go up to £120...

FrightfullyPoshFloss · 09/10/2005 14:21

Well, I think maybe if we were to talk to some mortgage lenders something could be arranged, I'm sure . That kitchen is beautiful.

We've had anything up to 130k. But the thing that I want to be sure we can try to do is to get the mortgage where we can combine out debts. It's the only way really it will be worthwhile IMO. So we would, in effect, be borrowing about 150 k anyway, taking into account our debts (yes they are that bad .

I think I'd compromise and buy a garage somewhere if I had that house

HRHWickedwaterwitch · 09/10/2005 14:26

Actually soapbox, if you could afford that house you would probably be able to afford a garage and/or a chauffeur or cabs everywhere!

Whitehall is sort of between Easton, St George and Eastville/Fishponds. We lived right on the St George/Whitehall border before we moved. The house is right on the main road which is pretty busy day and night fyi.

Sorry for confusing everyone and stealing your acronym(is that right?), I will try and think of alternative.

HRHWickedwaterwitch · 09/10/2005 20:32

Oh I don't care about the acronym, wwwcl, use away! I was just explaining!

This house is near where we used to live, good location (Summerhill School on the same road, right near park, easy to get to Bath from here, close to high street with Tesco Metro/chemist etc):

This one looks tidy:

On a fairly busy road but right near two good schools (St Josephs and Chester Park, Morrisons round the corner and busy high street (Fishponds) as well as easy access to Bath).

This looks spacious and has a lovely garden:

The ones right near a really excellent pre-school called The Limes, it's also a stones throw from St George Park and the high street:

Bless you WCL, thanks for those. The last one looks good, although I think the other will definately be out of our price range unfortunately. I know Fishponds well, used to do my nurses training on Blackberry Hill at Glenside. Live across the road .

Horfield is nice in places, horrid in other places, but is nice area to live.

kuoni · 10/10/2005 12:36

Agree about Horfield - much much nicer area than most of St Annes. Ok so some of Horfield is a little bit rougher round the edges than others but I think it is value for money. It wasn?t that long ago that people felt the same way about Bishopston and look how that has bloomed - prices zoomed up and become really quite trendy. I reckon Horfield (most of it) is not that different and definitely value for money.
Had friends who lived in Horfield in a lovely older style semi and loved it. Never any problem with crime, felt relaxed about walking around at night.
Agree about schooling - plenty of lovely primary, secondary ones tend to be a let down but al could change as several are getting cash injections and improving all the time.
Recommend Horfield 100% over Knowle and over St Annes.

FrightfullyPoshFloss · 10/10/2005 12:57

Thanks. Have spoken to DP, he didn't realise Horfield was next door, so now he will consider it too! Thanks!

How funny, I lived there too! I did nurse training in 1990 (Project 2000) but it was called the Avon and Gloucestershire College of Health when I was there.

Good luck finding somewhere
