All children are different with teething. Some babies can be born with teeth & others seem to be teething forever before anything comes through.
The text books state that eruption starts at 6 months & ends at 2 years, but this is sooooo approximate really.
The specified dates are (deciduous teeth, aka baby teeth, milk teeth, temporary teeth, are given letters of A thru E) A (Central Incisor aka very front teeth)
6 Months.
B (Lateral Incisor, each side of central teeth)
8 Months
C (Canine, or eye teeth, next to b's)
18 Months
D (1st molar)
12 Months
E (2nd molar, farthest back in mouth)
24 Months.
Lower teeth generally tend to come thru slightly earlier than their upper conterparts.
My DD got her upper B's before her A's, which is very unusual. WE are still waiting for her E's.
The molars generally tend to cause less problems as the surface of the tooth is flat & blunter than those of the other teeth. Incisors & canines are quite sharp & tend to cause more problems because of this.
Hope this has helped a bit, all children are different so don't worry if it seems that your child is a little late on getting some teeth, or they come thru at the "wrong time"
2 interesting facts you may not know. Baby teeth start to develope quite early, when our children are still foetuses (sp) & the permanent adult teeth start developing at birth (sometimes sooner) Sorry to those who may already know, just a couple of "useless" facts.
