Friends of ours had a daughter 18 months before ds was born. That little girl called my dh 'daddy' from starting to talk until she was about 3 1/2.
Caused some sharp breaths occasionally from other members of the family I can tell you

ScummyMummy · 06/10/2005 14:22

I remember this- it's a funny stage!

There's some explanation for it. I think. Something to do with the way kids only gradually recognise categories of things. So at first they might call every animal a "dog" or every man "daddy" but later they refine those categories as they realise that there are infinitely more classes of things than they first thought. There- I've now turned a nice amusing story about your boy into a boring lecture. My work is done!

madmarchscare · 06/10/2005 14:25

No dont worry, come to think of it he did used to think every animal 'meowed', but thats not as funny I suppose.

I think it is so beautiful how children reach out and make people smile. Its a lost art in adults.

For awhile any granddads at play group or at the park were a target for dd, after she meet her grandad and fell in love with him. He lives along way away.
