Has anyone ever taken 'Parental Leave'?

DH has no holiday left this year. I have a vital meeting to go to in a couple of weeks and there is no one else to collect DS from nursery at lunchtime and look after him. Is DH entitled to take it as parental leave? Has anyone done this? Is it unpaid? The company he works for is not very family friendly so they definitely won't have encountered this before.

Also agree with Mandrake - somebody has to make the first move and set a prescedent.

I work in a team of 25 and I the only one with children. I was the first to go part-time...quoted the law and all that! The company sound like they need to have a few things pointed out to them.

DP gets round the regulations by booking our holiday weeks in as (unpaid) parental leave, as the system for booking them is rigid, as Zebra describes. Then he takes annual leave (paid) in odd days, booked at short notice. because the rules for taking annual leave are much more flexible.

btw am fennel in new seasonal Evil Herb incarnation...

I agree Mandrake but then I'm more bolshy than DP. We're now hoping that the MIL can help out but I'm sure this sort of thing will happen again so it's good to know.
