For food for a childs party..or would you?
Thinking of cateering childrens parties, would you pay for it? If so,how much per head or per party.
Birthday cake
Buns
biscuits crisps
cheese straws
sandwiches
fruit
cucumber,tomato etc

you know the kind of thing

I would never be in a position to pay, but if I was, I would expect it to be considerably better than what I could produce myself.

Eg - handmade cake, well decorated (possibly in a certain shape)
Decorated buns
Homebaked biscuits
Homemade cheese straws
Interesting sandwiches - eg rolled up rather than in squares/triangles?
Cucumber and tomato cut in fancy shapes etc

Presentation would be key (and more important to the paying parent than the kids who eating it!)

Also could be themed - dd1 had a stripey party and I had great fun with the food!

Sorry - I realise you didn't ask about that at all! In answer to your question - about £3 per head and another £10 - £15 for the cake perhaps?

auntymandy · 05/10/2005 11:45

yes would all be homemade..maybe even bread or rolls depending on mood!!
Themed if desired!
Birthday cake anything you like!!

OP posts:
MiaouTheFamiliar · 05/10/2005 11:47

I nearly suggested making the bread too... lol!

MiaouTheFamiliar · 05/10/2005 11:49

Would you provide tableware (tablecloths, plates, cups etc) to go with your theming?

Sorry, I will never be a potential customer, just love catering for kids parties! Am excited on your behalf, heehee!

freakyzebra · 05/10/2005 11:49

They charge £1/child at the play centre where DS1 is having his party, but it's caque food, not at all what I want my kids to eat.
I suppose we will spend around £20 for the 20 children, so presuming I was saving myself the bother and you would deliver the food, and it was the quality of food I wanted...
I suppose max. £30-£35 for 20 kids, including food and drink but the cake.
But I am supremely mean with my money.

freakyzebra · 05/10/2005 11:49

but NOT the cake, i meant.

Caligula · 05/10/2005 11:51

The more children, the cheaper it becomes.

I organise volunteer evenings at which the budget is £5 per head, and for 15 volunteers, I get things like continental meats, vol au vonts, satay, mezes, smoked salmon etc. So for much simpler and cheaper child's food, I'd be really suprised to spend more than a couple of pounds per head, if that.

CountessDracula · 05/10/2005 11:52

I would pay £5 a head for the food if it was really nice and well presented (and organic would be good too). Plus whatever for the cake, you could offer lots of different ones for diff. prices.

CountessDracula · 05/10/2005 11:53

Oh that would have to include plates, napkins etc

MiaouTheFamiliar · 05/10/2005 11:56

I think the price would have to reflect that fact that the food is homemade and you've not just grabbed a load of stuff from the supermarket. It has to cover your labour costs too.

auntymandy · 05/10/2005 11:58

So say £4 a head including table cover and cups plates etc, would be ok? Maybe include cake at that! A smallish themed one and a big square one to cut up for party bags if there isnt enough in the fancy one!!

auntymandy · 05/10/2005 11:59

I would buy crisps!!!

Laura032004 · 05/10/2005 12:02

You could always make your own organic root vegetable crisps!

CountessDracula · 05/10/2005 12:02

Most caterers offer different levels of menu - so you could do a £4 a £ 5 and a £6 per head. Or you could just put individual things and price them per head and people could pick what they wanted

CountessDracula · 05/10/2005 12:03

Where are you?

MiaouTheFamiliar · 05/10/2005 12:11

Dh makes homemade crisps - they are yum!

Laura032004 · 05/10/2005 12:11

It's a really good idea though. I used to do something similar when at sixth form/uni. I catered for the party, and then dressed up as a clown and did party games and face painting at the party.

I used to charge £20 plus cost of food for the food, and then £15/hr for the party entertaining (bit more if loads of kids and facepainting).

I would also do party bags if required, just charged the cost of them plus about £5 extra. I found that they were generally really pleased with them as I could bulk buy so get more for less IYKWIM.

auntymandy · 05/10/2005 12:11

Leeds!
maybe just do a party package?
Food for 10...£30
Food for 20...£40
Over 20 @ £3 per head?
Plust £15 for cake?
Just looking for ideas.
Always fancied doing it, but never have so wanted to know
a) if people would pay
b) How much they would pay

auntymandy · 05/10/2005 12:12

OP posts:
MiaouTheFamiliar · 05/10/2005 12:16

I think that sounds reasonable auntymandy. Agree, though, homemade crisps is a step too far!

my geography always was crap, lol!

I would imagine there's plenty of people round there who would pay - can you do a party at cost for a friend, then you will probably get reccommendations
