Am stuggling to get all the shopping home alone. DP and I have no days off proper togeth for the forseeable future again, and I don't like tesco's much. I've heard not so good things bout them, are they that bad?

I LOVE Sainsburys online and they have never let me down. I tried Tesco and found it annoying. I'd say give it a try! When you go on the site, book your delivery first. Try to book a Tues, Weds or Thurs because if you spend over £70 the delivery is free.

I've only used them once and they were appalling. To be fair, that was in their very early days of home delivery and they maye have improved. They were so bad though that I won't give them a second chance. I use Tesco Online and it's mostly OK.

By the way, I'm not sure where you live but I have heard that Ocado are excellent. They don't deliver in our area.
I find online shopping fantastic for staples once a month - hope it works for you. I tend to buy fresh things locally.

They've always been pretty good for me. Have issues with the "fresh" veg sometimes - get some stuff i certainly wouldnt pick out. But you could get that with all of them. Same as sometimes use by dates are only 2 days ahead sometimes.

Good otherwise though.

I have just ordered a dishwasher & washing machine from Sainsburys! Loads of points!!

It depends on which store your deliveries come from - I found it invaluable in last few weeks of pregnancy as dd was lying on a nerve and I could hardly walk.

However...had one instance when they called to tell me that they had discovered some of my shopping still on the delivery van and could I make a detailed list of anything I was missing - well I politely said that whole point was convenience to me so I was not going to go through whole kitchen trying to work out what was missing (was about 38 weeks and just put stuff away in kind of dazed fashion)Anyway to cut a long story short - bad customer service resulting in a manager calling me at 6.15am in the morning (thought is was a family emergency!)the next day to ask me what time would be convenient for me to receive my goods that day - apparently thats the time they work out the delivery rotas!!!

Also agree that dates on food can be quite short.

I tried Asda last week and must say I was impressed. Had given up on tescos due to them missing half the order of subs for a lot of stuff.

hunkerpumpkin · 04/10/2005 22:24

I have used Sainsbury's, Tesco and Ocado.

Ocado. Definitely. I know, I know, it's not as cheap as the others. But it's all fresh stuff as it's never been on the supermarket shelf and it's not picked by a moron

I've decided to use Ocado for online food shopping and Tesco or Asda for non-food items.

hunkerpumpkin · 04/10/2005 22:25

Register with Ocado now, and if you don't use them for a while, they send you a voucher for £15 off your first shop with them

Milge · 04/10/2005 22:29

Ocado, if they deliver in your area. I believe there is a spoof website called Sainsburys Sod You, in testament to their crap service. I think they give you a £10 voucher if the shopping is more than an hour late, which could be worth it, as long as you are not relying on them for bedtime milk or nappies or anything vital.

hunkerpumpkin · 04/10/2005 22:30

LOL Milge - the Ocado delivery driver rang me 20 minutes before my slot and asked if it was OK to deliver early! And I love that it's an hour-long delivery slot too

Would love to be able to afford waitrose prices. But I am being told I must cut back on my shopping budget again, having spent about 400 quid again last month. Of course, I could not tell DP, but if it came out that I was spending even more... well, you might not see me around for a while!!

Will register though HM, thanks for that, might make it worth it!

I found it worth the extra to only buy exactly what I wanted, plan the meals I knew I would need that week and, above all, get the things I'd ordered (there was only one very thing missing from my shop and no substitutions).

Sainsbury's had a habit of substituting the third thing on a 3 for 2 offer with a more expensive item, so not only did you not get the offer, you actually paid more for it! And the fresh fruit/veg wasn't much cop either. And their substitutions weren't very intelligent - I got things I didn't ever use. AND the driver dumped all the bags at the front door when I was 9 months pregnant (in the wet as it had been raining) and left sharpish - before I'd had a chance to look through the substitutions.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that by shopping online, I save money - I don't impulse buy in the same way as in the supermarket.

FrightfullyPoshFloss · 04/10/2005 22:48

I THOUGHT IT whoops sorry, was costing me more doing it online! Just can't face trying to lug it all up three flights of stairs. By the time it took me to write a list for DP to do it while I'm at work at the weekend I could have ordered it all online.
