We left 4 months ago and have never looked back, we weren't born and bred Londoners though so went back to our native Scotland, ok it's freezing and raining but it's a lot friendlier and am not paying a fortune to live in a tiny shoebox.

Jimjams · 04/10/2005 21:01

left london- and- best thing we ever did!

mancmum · 04/10/2005 21:02

left 10 years ago and except for missing friends, don't regret it at all... we have a better lifestyle and all the restaurants and bars and culture we used to love in London we can get up here...

LadyTophamHatt · 04/10/2005 21:05

We're not exactly in hussle and bussle of London(we're in wallington, Nr Sutton) but in a few months we're moving away and it can't come soon enough.

I hate it here.

spidermama · 04/10/2005 21:06

We oleft three and half years ago after living in London for 17 years. I thought I'd never leave but I have and it's been great.

I was in Camden today doing some work and though I loved visiting, I was really glad to come back home to Brighton.

Are you considering then albosmum?

albosmum · 04/10/2005 21:06

ladytophamhatt we live in sutton and today dh and i basically said same!

Will hopefully be leaving next year once we know when new job starts. Can't come soon enough. Hate it here.

albosmum · 04/10/2005 21:08

and yes we are considering a bit we have few friends here (most have already left london), no family, expensive childcare and long commute.
where are you moving to LTHatt

muppet73 · 04/10/2005 21:08

Absolutely not

Lived there for 8 years and moved out 2 years ago and have never looked back. Took a bit of adjusting - I miss meeting such a wide range of people but most of my friends have also moved out of London in the last year so no one left to miss.

Do occasionally miss range of restaurants though - China town in particular

Still find it slightly frustrating that things close down so early. For example couldn't comprehend for ages that local corner store didn't stay open when I needed milk at 11.30 at night!!

MarsLady · 04/10/2005 21:09

I love London..............

sorry to butt in, but someone had to say it.

London is wonderful. The world on a plate

muppet73 · 04/10/2005 21:12

Arrhh The world on a plate - back to missing China Town again!!

LadyTophamHatt · 04/10/2005 21:12

Seaford, it's almost smack bang in the middle of Brighton and Eastbourne.

9.1 miles to Eastbourne and 9.7 miles to Brighton according to the Multimap website.

FrightfullyPoshFloss · 04/10/2005 21:13

ML, I would be of the same opinion I'm sure if I could live in a slightly more decent and central area. But thats unabtainable.

MarsLady · 04/10/2005 21:14

I know. We live in a gorgeous area... but can't afford to, but you would have to drag me out kicking and screaming.............. also.... if I'm gonna poor.... here's where I'm gonna be poor lol

Agreed Floss. If i could live where my parents and ILs live i wouldnt want to leave London. We currently live somewhere we wish hadnt moved to in London.

We have discussed it over and over too but are totally undecided on where to move and how far. There is an element of "if we are going to move we might as well go the whole hog" so to speak. But we dont want to be hours and hours from family either.

QueenVictoria · 04/10/2005 21:23

Bet you live near my parents Marslady

Capie · 04/10/2005 21:35

So does that mean you HAD to leave jobs in order to move out of London?

DH wants to move, but I am concerned about being so far from DS (we both work full time in West End) just incase something happens.

Also afraid of then starting the boring life!

But it does get to me the shoebox living & would love "fresh air" & grass.....

super1971 · 04/10/2005 21:37

but dont you all miss the vibracy of london,?

FrightfullyPoshFloss · 04/10/2005 21:45

Will hopefully going to vibrant Bristol. I find it much more vibrant, fun and relaxed than London.

MarsLady · 04/10/2005 22:00

What would be postcode be Queen Vikki?

Frieda · 04/10/2005 22:12

We left London a month ago tomorrow, so guess it's too early to say yet. However, one thing has struck me already - how much we worried in an about how dull the sticks would be in comparison, how all the locals would be bumpkins (not me so much, but DH who's a Londoner through and through) and how wrong we were. There are loads of lovely, interesting people around where we are now - not wall-to-wall Daily Mail readers by any stretch. And a night out in London is just a couple of hours down the motorway (or 55 minutes by train) but we'll have lovely rolling countryside, fresh air and cosy country pubs where you can get a seat near the roaring log fire to come back to. Can't say I miss it at all at the moment. (Mind you, the long dark nights and the sleet and snow haven't started yet...)

QueenVictoria · 04/10/2005 22:55

N12 - yours?

Where do you live approx Frieda?

CountessDracula · 04/10/2005 23:21

Sorry but sutton is not London IMO

I too adore London and would never leave if I had my way (see my vvvv controversial thread a while ago!) DH sadly has other ideas, though as he has never lived outside he has nasty shock coming hehehehehh
