does anyone know anything about wallpaper?

I have a new roll of wallpaper border to put up in ds2's room tomorow. I have two questions. From what I can tell, it is not pre-pasted and I will actually need to apply something to the back of it. What is the simplest thing to use?
Also, there is currently a border on the wall. It was a pre-psated one - not one with a sticker-like bcak to it. So it will be a pain to remove. I just want to apply the new one on top. Would this be a problem?

Thanks!

Can you try to peel the top layer off the border, leaving a paper back. Otherwise use a strong border adhesive and make sure the new one is wider than the old.

Shouldnt be a prob if you make sure
it is well pasted and the
border is wider than the previous and there
are no air lumps.

You can buy border adhesive from all diy shops, poundstretchers, wilkos etc and it doesnt cost much.

You can buy ready made wallpaper paste from any hardware store, and it would be better to remove the old border first unless it is exactly the same width as the new one, and if you are sure you wont see the old onr through the new one.

I would definately not see the old one through the new one. But the new one is a tiny tiny bit narrower. I held it up and there was a tiny line of white showing at the top and bottom. It didn't look that bad so I was just going to leave it. However, is it easy to remove the old one? I thought it would be very hard.

Is the old border on top of wallpaper??

IlanaK · 30/09/2005 19:12

No, it is ontop of a freshly painted wall (I mean it was newly painted at the time - about 1.5 years ago).

Strip it of then, sponge or spray with hot soapy water and scrape off.....very very easy and wont take long.

taking wallpaper off is a pain in the backside - I'm currently trying to take it off in 3 rooms and I have a steamer which makes it miles quicker!

If it's not going to come off easily (the border) and you won't see it through the new wallpaper, then leave it on. You'll only cause yourself hassle trying to take it off - honestly.

I love stripping wallpaper it is easy just a border is no problem at all.

foxinsocks · 30/09/2005 19:19

if it doesn't need to be taken off, I'd leave it. Just causes more work otherwise!

if you love stripping wallpaper, you can come here! I'd gladly pay someone to do this (if I had the money). I've found muscles in my arm I never knew I had!

I would do it for free if you lived close enough I think it is great fun.

Saddo aint I?
