Christmas Presents - what are the 'hits' and 'misses' for your dc?

Curious to know what gifts have lived up to their billing (or exceeded expectations), and which are/were disappointments? Any surprises - good or bad?

Our only dud so far - a remote control helicopter that no longer functions after bumping (gently) into the wall.

Most popular so far? Walkie talkies - dd has been in the garden in the bitter cold, and is taking great delight in sending me radio greetings and 'important' messages.

Dd1 - Itouch (have hardley seen her since)
Dd2 - Illumination station
Ds - Star Wars AT AT and tub of soldiers.

Haven't really had any misses, except that dd2 had a bike and hasn't really been able to use it yet.

Earlybird - Just Dance is fabulous. We have both versions and personally I think the first one is better. Will be cheaper too lol.

Carrotsandcelery · 27/12/2010 18:24

I haven't sampled the full repertoire on Just Dance 2 Earlybird - too busy snoozing playing with other toys the kids were given. I will report back as soon as I can be bothered to move have put the kids to bed. Xmas Grin

DSes (3.10 and 20m) loved Playmobil police car and road sweeper (90% of the 'rubble' which accompanies the latter already in vacuum though). Also Tesco car-launching transporter (£7) has been HUGE hit. Only miss: chocolate snowmen which DS1 refused to eat Hmm

FrostyAndSlippery · 27/12/2010 18:29

Haven't been any misses so far - not everything has been played with yet but hopefully it will be. DD in particular has been unwell.

Biggest hits were all of DS's stuff, he's 1 but DD (3) loves his toys too:

ELC car transporter
ELC cogs and gears
ELC pop it in the post game
Asda racing helicopter and plane

DD got more board game and educational type stuff, so it'll take longer to see what's good. However she's enjoyed playing with Fridge Words today, and a Maisy mouse board game.

FrostyAndSlippery · 27/12/2010 18:33

Oh and for my DSCs the biggest hit was Just Dance 2 (they knew they were getting it though, so nobody else would buy it) which they played here, OMG I have to get it! (already got the first one)

Also DSS (18) loved his "and on the 8th day god created the mini" Tshirt.

DSD1 (12) loved her JLS Tshirt (feeling quite chuffed as she put on FB that it's the Best Tshirt Ever :))

Dsd2 also 12 likes her Spongebob swimming bag :o

Beamur · 27/12/2010 18:39

DD (3) has enjoyed the happyland school house, loved the nurses uniform and medical kit and the roaring dinosaur from her siblings. I think the lego will be a grower, but didn't grab her attention at first.

EsmeWeatherwax · 27/12/2010 18:41

Most pressies have gone down well with the dd's this year, they both got babydolls, which dd2 (18 months) loves to distraction. Most played with so far have been a Weebles tree thing, and a toy sweet shop.

The Woody and Jessie dolls that DD1 has been asking for since August got a huge scream of delight on opening, but have been basically ignored since.

A cheapo barbie with a couple of outfits has also been a major hit, as have two flower magic wands which cost £1 each from Tesco.

No real duds so far but it's hard to tell at this early stage!
Big hits have been remote control train, and Playmobil pirates. Although I have hoovered up at least one of those tiny gold coins already.

Oh, and Hungry Hippos went down a storm too! We've all had a lot of fun with that.

Lilyloo · 27/12/2010 19:47

ds 8 has loved ashes cricket game for wii , wrestling ring and figures and ipod touch.

dd5 has loved vtech camera , fab pressie, leapfrog tag pen and book and silver shoes.

dd2 has loved soft spotty dog , ben and holly and peppa pig castles.

Misses have been lego , moxie girlz and la la loopsy all pressies they asked for !

Carrotsandcelery · 27/12/2010 19:59

I refused to buy dd moxie girlz. She really wanted them but there was something about them I couldn't reconcile myself with. I don't know what it was but I just couldn't buy them.
I think some of the toys that are overlooked just now will be enjoyed in time though. Mine tend to fixate on one or two things and it takes a while to get round it all.
I am happy with that - the fun lasts for ages!

SatinShoes · 28/12/2010 13:27

will do earlybird :) dd still too poorly to play it but she is loving her moxie girls fashion design kit. she is colouring in all their clothes. I know people hate Moxie on here but dd seems to really like them.

aristomache · 28/12/2010 13:32

My 9 year old daughter LOVES her stilts, she goes everywhere on them and wants to stilt-walk at a festival next year Grin

Earlybird · 28/12/2010 14:21

I must be horribly out of touch. DD is 9, and I have no idea what Moxie girls are. Blush
