Luckily, there's a special place in hell reserved for these creatures.

And they sleep upside down with their wings folded on their chests.

TinyGang · 29/09/2005 10:47

Oh Lynny, my favourite subject. Our dr's receptionists have had me in tears and rages galore over the years.

At the point of ringing the surgery, you are already worried and uptight about whoever is ill; by the time they've added their shovelful you've had it.

Everything already said here is spot on. Moondog is right - write a nice calm, succint letter of complaint politely annhialating the old bat.

(LOVED 'and have everyone else sniggering into the dog earred copies of Take a Break circa 1981'. Inspired posting Moondog!)

hunkermunker · 29/09/2005 10:48

Yes, MD - you made me snort with that too

Jenum71 · 29/09/2005 10:50

I used to be a Drs receptionist and I was one of the nice ones!

I say was cos I walked out after 3 months!

well.....where do I start?

I had a run in with the Practice Manager cos I had added an extra appointment on for a patient who really needed her medication. I knew they would be in and out cos they only needed a prescription.. It was a Friday night and PM had a go cos it meant he would have to stay later - poor thing! Then he said I had to be harder on the patients. I tried to explain, but he turned to me and said - "Jenny, if you dont want the job just go!" - so I did!

I had 10 mins till my shift ended and he shouted after me - dont worry i'll cover the last 10 mins of your shift. You dont want to know what I replied

And as I walked out, the patient who I had added on walked out just after me.

ooh feel better now i've got that off my chest!

Lonelymum · 29/09/2005 11:05

I wonder what happens when a doctor's receptionist tries to make an appointment to see their doctor? Can you imagine it:

The Woman from Hell meets The Devil's Spawn!

bundle · 29/09/2005 11:10

my mum (who's obviously lovely)is a doctors' receptionist: she can never get an appointment

TinyGang · 29/09/2005 11:15

Hooray for you Jenum! At being told to be 'harder on the patients'.

I am sure there are some nice ones out there. I have encountered one or two, but on the whole they do seem to have a pretty bad reputation on the attitude front.

spidermama · 29/09/2005 15:56

GO Jenmum. Well done! You stuck it to him eh?

By the way, speaking of Doc's receptionists it has occurred to me that in all my seven years breastfeeding whilst out and about, only two women have ever given me attitude, and one was a doctor's receptionist.

(The other was a leisure centre attendant, in case you were wondering.)

good for you!

moondog · 29/09/2005 21:31

What did she say sm??

TinyGang · 29/09/2005 21:43

Leisure Centre Attendant reminds of The Brittas Empire, which I loved. I can just imagine Brittas getting het up about a bit of bf.

spidermama · 29/09/2005 23:20

Moondog ...
She sneered, 'Wouldn't you prefer to do that in another room?'
Grrrrrrrr!

spidermama · 29/09/2005 23:21

TG, that programme altered my perception of leisure centres for life.

expatinscotland · 29/09/2005 23:22
