Sorry - I hope this will be my last irrational fear.... but quite a few people/books are warning me to take my own antibacterial wipes into hospital because the bathrooms aren't that clean... I'm going in for a csection and dont relish the thought of cleaning their bathrooms for 4 days but......? I do have concerns about getting an infection while I'm in there. On last nights local news, there was a feature on my local hospital - apparently all the consultants have been sent an email telling them that the cleaning contract has been cancelled and they are now responsible for keeping their own areas clean and emptying their own bins..... this didnt help my fears.... what types of experience have you all had???

it does hurt but they give you good drugs The pain soon goes though after a couple of days you only have to take mild painkillers. If you are used to major surgery you probably have a higher pain threshold anyway.

so even if i was in pain from the wound but wanted to leave theres no reason i couldnt ? (i'd lie and say i was in no pain)

yes if everything else is ok and you feel up to it. You may want to stay in longer though

i didn't find the actual op painful so please don't worry. in fact, it was very exciting because in no time at all, there is your baby! and ths stiching up time flies by because you are looking at lovely baby!

i do remember being completely drugged on morphine though and chatting ten to the dozen for hours after and being very excited to meet my baby. i had some mad dreams, mainly to do with the buzzing of the leg massaging things.

the nurses kept me completely topped up with painkillers, and i don't think i ever asked for one; they just slowly phased out over a week or two. i found it very hard to sit up the next day and needed a ladder thing, but next day was fine to sit up myself. i was in 4 nights though. i had no infection, everything was just fine, so i guess you might have to expect four nights. by the last night, i was enjoying big brother, eating like a horse, and reading loads of mags (oh and learning how to look after a baby!)good luck with it. and i think it was pretty clean - i certainly enjoyed my first bath - yum yum.

spod, i had my first ds 5 months ago by emergency c-section and it was great! i didn't feel a failure even though i had 2 midwives telling me how sorry they were that after pushing for nearly 3 hours. my ds didn't want to know! i spent 4 days in hospital and loking back now, i wish I'd made more of the time spent laying down, reading mags and eating chocs! i was up and walking within 7 hours of being stitched up because i was so desperate to get home. i pulled the wound dressing off after 10 hours and ripped my stitches! Make the most of not doing anything and just enjoy bonding with your baby. oh, and by the way, my ward was spotless, the toilets were gleaming, the beds were changed twice a day if you wanted and the food, well, it can't all be first class! good luck
