Any horse riders out there

I am looking for someone competent who might like to ride my 16.3 irish sports horse a couple of days per week now I am going back to work. He is a lovely ride and has a great temperament. I compete locally on him so if someone is confident enough they will be able to do the same if they like. Otherwise he is great at hacking out alone or in company. He is stabled just off the A23 near Bolney.

Is that Sussex, checky? There are quite a few riders on MN but it helps to narrow it down! Good luck, hope you find someone.

starlover · 26/09/2005 23:29

i;'m near there! but i'm scared of horses!

Skribble · 26/09/2005 23:44

I would love to but I am in Scotland bit far to go .

Ah Checky, he sounds lovely. I do live close enough but unfortunately I'm not brave enough! (I used to be but the nerve's gone now. Ploddies only for me!). I hope you find someone suitable though.

Where is Bolney? I would absolutely love to meet you and your beautiful horse and desperately need some thigh trimming exercise! I am on A3, is that anywhere near A23? Am lapsed competent rider, had a few hacks lately and would love to get back into the saddle.

How does it work when exercising peoples horses, does money normaly change hands, I have sen ads for this but not sure how it worked.

pixel · 27/09/2005 00:10

Just outside Brighton (about 1/2 hr drive), quite close to Hickstead.

jumble · 27/09/2005 00:34

Feasible. Any more details on days/times you would want said horsey exercised? Obviously a trial run would be appropriate. Could commit if it works out and cancel my unused gym membership in favour of horseriding in the blink of an eye. Let me know.

Hi sorry my pc was not playing ball yesterday!!
Thanks for everyone's contribution, and dont be scared!!

Skribble, money can change hands and usually does cos keeping a horse is massively expensive as you can guess and riding lessons are about 20 an hour I believe these days. BUT, in the first instance I am really looking for someone just to help out so am not expecting anything. If they really enjoyed him and rode regularly it would be great if they could contribute but that is further down the line.

Jumble, not sure if u've looked at a map yet, its a bit of a drive for you but you may think its worth it.
WHy dont you come down a try him out and see what you think?

I've just noticed this and can't believe you haven't had people queuing up. He sounds so lovely and I do miss riding but tbh I doubt if I could even get onto a 16.3!

Perhaps you should try posting somewhere else (pets, other subjects, chat?)as probably there are a lot of mumsnetters who don't look at sport very often.

piffle · 31/10/2005 20:32

If I was close I'd bite your hand off...

I would LOVE to take you up on this, Checky, but unless I can think of childcare solution for ds I am stuck. Quite handy for you too - we're near East Grinstead. Ooh, bugger, really racking brain as to what I could do with ds!

ps would LOVE to do one-day eventing again!

Hi Checky, Just thought I'd be cheeky and ask, as you're in the right area, if you know anyone who is selling a nice quiet family pony, round about 14.2hh? Gelding preferred but not essential, to live out in a well-fenced field with new shelter, sharing with a 20-odd year old shetland. It has to be up to a reasonable weight but the main thing is a gentle nature as it will be ridden by the whole family from my mum who is a pensioner to my 5yo ds who is disabled. The only problem is we haven't got a lot of money to spend. (We got one of our 'boys' from someone who was more interested in him having a good home than the money but can't expect to be so lucky again!) We are trying to save up but meanwhile we are paying for an empty field as it is central to all our homes and I have spent a lot of time ragworting etc so I don't want to give it up.

I lost my beloved 28 year old pony in November after 23 years together and we also used to have two others who lived to be 35 and 31 so we would provide an experienced home even if we have all lost our nerve riding-wise, mainly due to not having ridden for so long.

Sorry to waffle on for so long but would much prefer to find a horse through 'word of mouth' and don't know many horsey people nowadays. It's a scary business getting a new horse after so many years! Thanks for your patience in reading all this .
