Well, had a good first morning at uni today, the only blip being that my student loan hadn't arrived. I wasn't too worried but checked on the uni website to see what was happening. They have a thing where you can sign in and see if the uni have informed the student loans company if you have matriculated yet.

They haven't informed them and I matriculated on Tuesday 20th.

It can take up to five days after the uni has informed the SLC for your payment to come through!

I gave my dds nursery a cheque for the first month this morning and my rent is due on Wednesday! There is no way the money will be in on time. I don't understand why they have not informed them yet anyway! I am going to try and find out tomorrow but still there is no hope for this week. I can cover the nursery fees, just, but my rent is out of the question!

Really upset and pissed off. Especially as I have spent months organising this, only for it to feck up now, and it isn't (for once) even my fault!

On top of that my mum finds out if she has cervical cancer tomorrow.

poor you. Surely if you fall behind with just 1 week rent it should be okay if you usually pay it on time.

Fingers crossed for your mum tomorrow xxx

My student loan hasn't gone through yet either. Can't you have a word with your landlord and the nursery and stop the cheques? You don't want to get charged too. Hope your mum's okay.

weesaidie · 26/09/2005 19:52

I am going to see what they say tomorrow and then ask my landlord if she can wait a week. She is nice but I hate to let her down so last minute like this! Don't want to stop the nursery cheque as we have only just started and I don't want to be seen as unreliable, student, single mum just yet!

Just so depressing.

And my mum says they told her she has an 80% of having cancer.

can you get a hardship loan same happened to me when I went to uni. University quickly gave me hardship loan and I had to pay it back when got my grant.

weesaidie · 26/09/2005 20:19

Thanks for the advice meko and aimsmum.

I am going to go to see the registry people tomorrow and see what they say. I am hoping they will immediately 'inform' the SLC and hopefully it will be through by the beginning of next week. I am certain this is not my fault, which makes it worse in a way!

I will definitely look into the hardship thing if I can't get student loan soon although it is supposed to take at least 3 weeks, but maybe not in an emergency?

My rent comes out by standing order so I will have to cancel that tomorrow and then ask my landlord if I can pay it directly in in cash later, that way it won't be as late IFYKWIM.

It just got me down as I have tried so hard since becoming a single parent to stay on top of things and now this happens!

I am trying not too worry too much about my mum, she got through breast cancer 14 years ago! I think I am right in saying that cervical cancer is generally not fatal? Not that it isn't bad, but it does usually have a positive outcome. I hope.

Looking on the net at staging for cervical cancer... stage 1 is obviously what I am hoping for!

I got my cheque within 48 hours and paid £10 to have it express cleared (clears the next day) - I was an independent student (25) 3 months too young to be a mature student, but over 21.

weesaidie · 26/09/2005 20:35

I am a mature student and I am 23! But that maybe just my university or because I am in Scotland? I did have to make it very clear I was totally independent on some forms though as I was under 25. Found that very annoying.

I know what you mean, I was gutted that I could not be a mature student whith was 26+, it would have made a couple of hundred pounds a year difference to my grant ( all for the sake of 3 months)

Meko · 26/09/2005 20:41

hope things go as well as they can with your mum.

weesaidie · 26/09/2005 20:44

Thanks Meko.

It is a PITA eh? I mean your life is totally the same but you are being short changed... grrrr

I will thanks guys!

It really is so much about that single parent thing for me at times. I really fecked up financially before I had dd and really don't want to go there again.

Anyway, just repeating myself now...will let u know both outcomes tomorrow!

Things can only get better they say and they are right!

Bit the bullet last night and phoned my dad to see if he could lend me my rent until next week... he can. Phew. Phoned the registry today and they have contacted the SLC so mt loan should be with by Mon/Tues at the latest! Phew. Means another quiet weekend in but I can handle that!

Plus. My mum does NOT have cervical cancer!!! She has something called cervical erosion, which is not that bad, they will just have to keep an eye on it. So relieved.

Thanks for all your support!
